5. What has occurred? The dancers couldn’t find the rhythm to the beat of
the drums in preparation for Grenada’s 50th Independence celebration.
6. What do they have on their minds? The joy of finally getting it right
and dancing according to their plans.
7. What are their hopes and dreams/How was the issue resolved? To
impress a nation and spectators with their talents. They were able to
resolve the issue by listening to one of their youngest dancers (Hezron).
8. Is there a conclusion? They were able to “waw” their spectators with
their performance.
Ancella, a beautiful, flawless young woman who originates from the deep
trenches of Tivoli, St. Andrew, is the lead dancer of the Groovers Belair dance
group. She is fearless and thrives on challenges. Known to many, lies an ancient
estate once belonging to our long-lost slaves, the group gathered to practice
their routine dance in River Antoine. They were in preparation mode, for the
once-in-a-lifetime celebration of Grenada’s 50th Independence Anniversary. The
air was still, the trees stood at ease, while the sweet sound of the drums echoed
through the atmosphere. To each their own, the group comprised 10 dancers and
4 drummers spreading from the surrounding villages: Tivoli, Mt. Rich, and
Hermitage. They were spectacular, always in sync and knew how to perform their
task. The Groovers have been practising for weeks, however, as the time drew
near, they seemed to have hit a stumbling block. Ancella was frustrated, for she
tried everything she knew to get the group dancing again to the rhythm of the
drums. Even with her best efforts, they couldn’t find themselves. Paul, Ricardo,
and Liz who were just a few members of the group, started to feed off Ancella’s
energy. There was tension, quarrels, and animosity among the group. No one
couldn’t find their steps or even be in sync with each other while going through
the routine they had been practising for weeks. Ancella began to cry, even
though she was portrayed to be a woman of steel, not being able to get the
group to perform broke her to pieces. Hezron, the youngest in the midst, stood
up and quietly walked to where Ancella sat. He gently placed his hands around
her shoulders and whispered, “It’s been a hard and stressful few weeks, it may
be best if we all take a break for a few hours to redeem ourselves. Some of us
are a bit tired and a bit lousy at the moment.” All that was on Ancella’s mind
was wanting to get this right, now and once and for all. However, feeling
defeated, she adhered to the advice of Hezron and instructed the group to take a
few hours' break. She sat the group down in the middle of the estate and decided
to treat them to lunch and build back that team spirit among them. They ate,
laughed, talked, and discussed the importance of getting this right. The Groovers
gathered once more, for they were ready to go at it again. They slowly started to
get their groove, the routine was falling in line and their rhythm to the sounds of
the enchanting drums were quickly starting to hit. They danced, they began to
enjoy themselves more and Ancella can now see the difference in her group’s
performance. Her smile can be seen from the back, as it touches her ear. The
Groovers were grooving again, and they could now feel the spirit and finally felt
ready for that big day. Ancella speaking to herself, quietly said, “Even the
youngest can be a leader and can learn a lot from them.” Herzon's advice seems
to have done the trick and got the group moving again. Now, they’re ready and
pumped to put on a memorable display for the spectators with their performance
for the 50th Anniversary celebrations.
