FACULTAD DE CIENCIAS ADMINISTRATIVAS Y ECONÓMICAS

ESTRATEGIA INGLÉS EN EL AULA - CELEO

Activity: "The Manager's Challenge"

1. Form small groups: (3 – 4 students per group)

2. Each group will act as managers of a new café that is about to open in the city. Their

goal is to use the four functions of the administrative process to make sure their café is

successful. They will need to:

• Plan: Decide the goals and what they need to do.

• Organize: Arrange resources (staff, equipment, etc.).

• Lead: Motivate their employees and ensure teamwork.

• Control: Monitor progress and make adjustments.

3. Scenario: You are opening a café called “___________.” Your goal is to attract 100

customers in the first week of opening. Use the administrative process to achieve this.

4. Step-by-Step Instructions:

 Planning:

o Write down 3 goals for your café (e.g., attract customers, serve high-quality

coffee, make a profit).

o Come up with an action plan for reaching their goals. What will you do?

(e.g., advertise, offer discounts, hire staff, etc.)

 Organizing:

o Think about how to organize the café. You must decide how many staff

members to hire, what equipment you need (coffee machines, tables, etc.),

and how to arrange the work (e.g., who will be the cashier, who will make

coffee).

 Leading:

o Discuss how you will lead the staff. What can you do to motivate

employees? How can you encourage teamwork? (e.g., team meetings,

rewards for good performance, making sure everyone feels included).

 Controlling:

o Now, you need to think about how you will control and monitor progress.

How will you measure success? (e.g., track customer feedback, count daily

sales). What changes will you make if things are not going well? (e.g.,

change the menu, offer new promotions).

5. Discussion: Ask questions like:

 How did each group’s plan differ?

 Which step of the process was the most challenging?
 What would they change if their plan didn't work?
