Guidelines for Authors
Introduction
These guidelines have been compiled to assist you in writing and submitting your chapter for the
book “Arthroscopy - The Technical Pearls”. Following these guidelines will streamline the
editorial process, ensure consistency across chapters, and save time by minimising corrections.
At a Glance
Aims & Scope Practical guide for orthopedic surgeons providing concise, expert
technical advice on arthroscopic procedures.
Authors Maximum three authors per chapter. Provide full names, affiliations,
and contact details. One author should be designated as the
corresponding author.
Length of text 600 - 1000 words per chapter (excluding references, figures, and
tables).
Figures/ Each chapter should include 5-15 high-quality images, with a minimum
Tables resolution of 300 dpi, submitted as separate files. Use arrows in the
images where appropriate to highlight specific structures relevant to
the discussion. Provide detailed figure legends that explain the surgical
step being demonstrated and describe what the arrows indicate.
Original images are preferred; however, if reproducing images from
other sources, ensure written permission is obtained and properly
acknowledged in the figure legends.
Videos Create a high-quality video (2-5 minutes in length) demonstrating the
detailed steps of the surgical procedure described in your chapter. The
video should include running subtitles that clearly outline each step of
the procedure. While voiceover is not required at this stage, we kindly
request you to provide the subtitles in the order of their appearance as a
separate Word document. This will assist in creating the voiceover later.

Submission As specified in your invitation email.
Deadline
Language Use UK English spelling. Avoid colloquial language. Ensure clarity and
consistency.
Reference Springer Vancouver style (numerical
Style citation). Provide a reference list at the end of the chapter.
PLEASE AVOID:
- Footnotes or endnotes (including acknowledgments). Incorporate footnotes into the text if
these are important information.
- Using the contributor’s title as a header for any part of the text
- First-person usage
- Any form of brand promotion or advertising
Chapter Specifications
1) General Remarks
- Audience: The content should be accessible to orthopedic surgeons, residents, and fellows,
including those new to arthroscopy.
- Stand-Alone Chapters: Each chapter must stand independently, providing core knowledge
of the topic without reliance on other chapters.
- Language: Avoid colloquialisms and explain all abbreviations and acronyms. Authors whose
first language is not English are encouraged to seek assistance from an English-speaking colleague.
2) Preparation of the Manuscript
- Layout: Final layout will be handled by the publisher, so focus on content quality.
- Introduction: Provide an introduction of 50-100 words summarising the objective of the
chapter and context.
- Figures and Tables: Include numbered figures and tables with clear captions. Define all
symbols and abbreviations in the captions. Ensure all images and illustrations are of high quality
and properly credited if not original. Use arrows and labels in all images. Use your own images. Do
not use images from published or online sources.
- Permissions: Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for copyrighted material and
providing documentation of permissions.
3) Figures, Images, videos and Permissions
- Submit figures as separate files in high resolution (300 dpi for photos, 1200 dpi for line
drawings), in addition to placing them in the appropriate location in the word file, along with their
legends. Acceptable formats include JPG, TIFF, or EPS. All figures should be cited in the text.
- Provide captions/ legends for all figures and include copyright acknowledgments where
applicable (e.g., "Courtesy of XYZ" or "© Author").
- All abbreviations should be expanded in the figure legends
- Video of duration 3-5 minutes regarding the procedure in high quality ( minimum 1080p) in
mp4 format is recommended
- Avoid using copyrighted material unless written permission has been obtained by the author
from the owner of the copyright. Keep records of permissions for your reference. As much as
possible, use own original images.
4) References
- Follow the Springer Vancouver style for citations. Use numerical citations in square brackets
(e.g., [1], [2-4]).
- Include all cited works in the reference list and ensure that all references are published or
officially accepted for publication.
- Do not use footnotes or endnotes for references.
5) Submission Process
- Submit your completed chapter and accompanying figures to one of the Editors by email.
- Ensure all files are correctly labeled and complete before submission.
6) Deadlines
Adhere to the deadlines specified in your invitation email. Timely submission ensures the smooth
progression of the project and helps maintain the schedule for publication.
