a. Solve the equation x2-5x+6=0 by completing the square method: (5 marks)

a. The fourth term of the geometric progression is 24 and the sixth term is 96. Find:

i. The sum of the first four terms of this series (3 marks)


ii. The sun of the nth term of this series (2 marks)
b. Find the interest on $640 invested from March 15 to September 1 2023 at 5% rate of
interest per year. (5 marks)
c. A principal of TSh.1,000,000 is invested at 8% interest for 3 year. Determine the total
amount at the end of three years if the interest is compounded semi-annually (5 marks)

QUESTION FOUR (15 marks)

The function f(x) = x2+16x+100 represents the cost function for producing a certain
product. Where x is the number of item produced.

a. Find the turning points of the curve represented by this function (hint: use method of
differentiation). (10 marks)

b. Find the minimum/maximum cost (5 marks)
