IMPORTANCE OF VALUES
In the Organization

Values are important to the study of organizational behavior because they lay the foundation for the understanding of
attitudes and motivation and because they influence our perceptions.

The most dangerous weapon today is intelligence without values

VALUES
The origin of a person’s value can be traced to culture, society, institutions, and personality.
Something that is freely chosen from alternatives and is actually acted upon and lived out.
Are things, persons, ideas or goals which important to life.
Anything which enables life to understood, evaluated and directed.
Whatever is actually liked, prized, esteemed desired, approved or enjoyed by anyone at anytime.

FIVE ASPECTS OF A TRUE VALUE


Too choose freely Cherishing and being happy with the choice
Willing to affirm the choice publicly Actually doing something with the choice
Acting repeatedly in some pattern of life.

Once you carry your own water, you learn value of every drop.

Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your thoughts positive because your
thoughts become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior become your habit. Keep your
habits positive because your habits become your value. Keep your value positive because your value become your
destiny.

WHAT IS WORK?
An act of doing with a given productive end.
An activity in which one exerts strength and faculties to do.
Labor, task or duty that affords one his accustomed means of livelihood

Hard work certainly goes a long way. These days a lot of people work hard, so you have to make sure you work even
harder and really dedicate yourself to what you are doing and setting out to achieve.

TYPES OF JOB ATTITUDES


1. JOB SATISFACTION
A employee with high level of job satisfaction holds positive attitudes towards his job., while a person who is
dissatisfied with his/her job holds negative attitudes about the job.

2. JOB INVOLVEMENT
Employee actively participates in his job, and considers his/her performance important to self-worth.
Employees with high level of job involvement strongly identify and really care about the kind of work they do.

3. ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT
A state to which an employee identifies with a particular organization and its goals, and wishes to maintain
membership in the organization. So, high job involvement means identifying with one’s specific job.

1. SELF WORTH
Behavioral Indicators:
a. Proudly Projects Corporate image
 renders loyalty to respective company and partner agency
 adheres to specified rules and regulations
 Avoid grumbling and petty complaints
 Think positively
 Shows confidence
b. Renders Whole-Hearted Commitment/involvement
 Assumes full responsibility on the job willingly
 Considers work as a contribution to the betterment of the community

 Honest, sincere, truthful and stands up for one’s belief

2. HUMAN RELATIONS
Behavioral Indicators:
a. Promotes environment conducive to job
 establishes rapport easily feels free to relate to other

5. COST CONSCIOUSNESS
Behavioral Indicators:
 Observes cost savings habits Assesses needs and resources
 Request for the right line/quantity of materials Avoids wastefulness

6. TIME CONSCIOUSNESS
Behavioral Indicators:
a. Follows work schedule
 observe time targets practices punctuality
 apportion time for every task aspires to beat deadlines

Provides allowances for Emergencies

 works in time-pressured circumstances

Grammar doesn’t define your intelligence. Grades doesn’t define your knowledge. Your attitudes define who
you are.
A bad attitude is like a flat tire, you can’t go anywhere unless you change it.

In general people are:
Have an inherent dislike for work and will avoid it if possible or do as little as possible
Do not seek out responsibility and avoid it if possible
Either prefers to be directed in order to avoid responsibility or is not able to direct their own behavior.
Cannot be trusted to make good decisions
Are not dependable
Are motivated only by money and other gains.
Are not concerned with the needs of organization
Need to supervised closely and coerced, controlled or threatened in order to obtain adequate effort
toward the achievement of organization objectives
Are not able to change.

Set goals that they understand and to which they are committed
Are wiling to assume responsibility for things in which they believe
Are capable of making decision about their own endeavors and prefer to do so
Have a need to achieve
Are trustworthy and dependable
Are motivated by things that interest or challenge them that contributes to their self-respect of feeling and
accomplishment
Want to contribute to the success of the organization of which they are a member
Need to be provided with resources to do task and supported in its accomplishments.
Are eager and able to learn and grow in order to develop personally and professionally.

If speaking kindly to plants, helps them to grow, imagine what speaking kindly to humans can do.
Work for cause not for applause…Live life to express, not to impress. Don’t strive to make your presence noticed, just
make your absence felt.

MYTHS OF EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION


MYTH no. 1: Increase satisfaction means increase performance
FACTS: Being satisfied is not necessarily the same as being productive
LESSON: Always work to align the goals of the organization with the goals of employee
MYTH no. 2: Money is a good motivator
FACTS: It’s not all about the money, we can make employee satisfied also by having them nice office, good meal,
safe environment, leisure area etc.
LESSON: Considered the motivation of each employee
MYTH no. 3: Improving employee satisfaction is expensive
FACTS: Addressing employee dissatisfaction is more expensive
MYTH no. 3: Fear is a damn good motivator
FACT: …Only for a very short period of time
E.g. show genuine care and concern for your employee rather than create an environment of fear.
