RCC Beam Design and Shear Analysis

This document is a tutorial for Grade XII students in the Department of Civil Engineering at Shree Nava Jagrit Secondary School, focusing on RCC structures. It includes various problems related to the design and analysis of beams, including ultimate moment of resistance, shear reinforcement, and shear capacity calculations using specified concrete and steel grades. The problems require students to apply their knowledge of reinforced concrete design principles to solve practical engineering challenges.

Modi – 6, Tilahar, Parbat
Subject: RCC Structure
Grade: XII
Tutorial – 3
(LSM: Flanged Section and Design for Shear)
1) Determine the ultimate moment of resistance of the L-beam as shown in figure below. Assume M20
concrete and Fe415 steel.

2) A simply supported T-beam has an effective span of 8m. The flange of the beam is 100 cm x 10 cm
and web below is 25 cm x 40 cm. It is reinforced with 5-25 mm Fe415 grade steel bars at an effective
cover of 60 mm. Determine the ultimate moment of resistance of the beam and also ascertain the
amount of UDL that can be safely applied on the beam. Adopt M25 concrete.
3) A 6 m x 10 m monolithic beam-floor system consists of 120 mm thick RC slab with 5 equally spaced
beams parallel to width of the slab. The slab is simply supported on 300 mm wide wall on all of its
edges. If the superimposed loads on slab is 7 KN/m2, design an intermediate and an end beam. Use
M20 mix and Fe500 steel.
4) Find the nominal shear stress of the tapered cantilever beam at 0.5 m from support.

5) Design the shear reinforcement for a RC beam of size 350 mm X 550 mm subjected to a factored
shear force of 300 KN at face of support. The beam contains 5-20 mm tension bars. Assume fck =
20 MPa and fy = 415 MPa.
6) An RC beam has an effective depth of 450 mm and a breadth of 300 mm. The effective span of the
beam is 4.5 m and is subjected to superimposed load of 25 KN/m throughout the span. Design the
shear reinforcement at critical section assuming the udl introduces compression in the end region.
Use M25 mix and Fe500 grade steel.
7) Calculate the ultimate shear capacity of the beam shown in figure at given sections. The grade of
concrete and steel are M25 and Fe415.
All dimensions are in mm unless otherwise specified.
