Context: There is an e-commerce marketplace app that connects customers (from tier 2 & and

beyond geographies in India) and sellers. Customers come to the app and buy items listed by sellers.
This marketplace does not own any inventory of its own and doesn't have a captive delivery network.
Delivery to customers happens through 3rd party logistics providers, who pick up ordered items from
sellers and deliver it to the customers' doorstep. Categories currently sold on this marketplace are
fashion, home, beauty, and accessories. Most of the items in these categories are unbranded and are
at low price points.

Problem Statement: Create a medium-term product strategy & and roadmap to increase orders per
customer per year for this marketplace.

Strategic Objectives:

Our primary objective is to enhance the frequency of orders per customer per year, recognizing that
sustained growth hinges not only on acquiring new customers but also on nurturing the loyalty of
our existing user base. This product assignment challenges to formulate a medium-term strategy and
roadmap that leverages our current strengths, addresses inherent challenges, and propels our
marketplace toward a more engaging and profitable future.

Current Scenario:

Our e-commerce marketplace app operates as a bridge between customers, predominantly from tier
2 and beyond geographies in India, and sellers offering a range of unbranded, affordable items across
categories like fashion, home, beauty, and accessories. Unlike traditional e-commerce models, we
don't own any inventory, and our order fulfillment relies on third-party logistics providers. This
means that when customers place orders, the purchased items are sourced directly from sellers and
delivered to customers' doorsteps through our network of logistics partners.

Our primary focus is on catering to customers seeking budget-friendly options, and the absence of a
captive delivery network necessitates a strong collaboration with external logistics providers. The
nature of our offerings, largely comprising unbranded products at low price points, caters to the
preferences of our target audience in tier 2 and beyond regions.

Assumptions:

1. Sellers' Inventory Management:

 We assume that sellers on our platform maintain a reliable inventory management

system. This is crucial to avoid stockouts and delays in order fulfillment. Clear
communication and guidelines are assumed to be in place to ensure sellers are
adequately equipped to manage their inventory efficiently.

2. Customer Preferences for Unbranded Products:

 An assumption is made that customers in tier 2 and beyond geographies in India

prefer and actively seek affordable, unbranded products. This assumption influences
the product strategy, emphasizing the need to retain the current product mix and
pricing strategy to align with these preferences.

3. Satisfactory User Interface and Experience:

 The existing user interface and experience of the app are assumed to be satisfactory.
While improvements and optimizations may be considered, major overhauls or
changes that could potentially disrupt the user experience are not part of the
current scenario. Users are familiar and comfortable with the app's navigation and
features.

4. Collaboration with Third-party Logistics Providers:

 It is assumed that our collaboration with third-party logistics providers is smooth and
effective. These logistics partners play a crucial role in the timely and secure delivery
of products to customers. Any potential challenges or improvements in this
collaboration are considered within the roadmap, but a fundamental assumption is
that the current logistics network is operational and reliable.

Research Findings:

1. Customer Behavior Analysis:

 Purchasing Patterns:

 In-depth analysis of customer transactions reveals prevalent purchasing patterns.

Understanding whether customers exhibit seasonality in their buying behavior, opt
for specific product categories, or respond to discounts provides valuable insights.

 Browsing History Examination:

 Examining customer browsing history sheds light on the products customers explore,
even if they don't make a purchase. Identifying popular categories and frequently
viewed items helps tailor the recommendation engine.

 Segmentation of customers based on demographics such as age, location, and

purchasing power provides a clearer understanding of the diverse customer base.
This allows for targeted strategies for different customer segments.

2. Market Trends:

 Competitor Analysis:

 Comprehensive analysis of competitors operating in similar geographies and offering

comparable product categories provides insights into their strategies. Understanding
what works or doesn't work for competitors informs our approach.

landscape helps anticipate shifts in customer preferences. This includes assessing the
adoption of new technologies, sustainable practices, or cultural trends influencing
buying decisions.

2
 Technological Advancements:

 Researching technological advancements in the e-commerce sector, such as

augmented reality for virtual try-ons or AI-driven chatbots for customer support,
unveils opportunities to enhance our app's features and stay competitive.

3. User Feedback and Satisfaction:

 Surveys and Interviews:

 Direct engagement with customers through surveys and interviews provides

qualitative data on their experiences, pain points, and expectations. Understanding
customer sentiments helps prioritize areas for improvement.

 App Ratings and Reviews:

 Analysis of app store ratings and reviews offers a snapshot of user satisfaction.
Identifying recurring themes in feedback, whether positive or negative, guides
enhancements to the app's features and overall user experience.

 Customer Support Interactions:

 Examining interactions with customer support provides insights into common

queries and challenges faced by users. Proactively addressing these issues
contributes to a more seamless customer experience.

 Campaign Performance:

 Evaluation of the performance of past marketing campaigns, including conversion

rates, click-through rates, and customer acquisition costs, helps determine the
effectiveness of current marketing strategies.

 Monitoring social media engagement metrics, such as likes, shares, and comments,
provides insights into the resonance of our brand and content. Social media analytics
guide decisions on content creation and engagement strategies.

helps allocate resources efficiently. Identifying high-impact channels and campaigns
contributes to a more targeted and cost-effective approach.
