5. EVALUATION PROCEDURE AND RESULT

Evaluation procedure is defined as a process of evaluation that

evaluates either the specific application or the system meets
its originally specific requirement or not [16,17]. Usability
evaluation had been carried out to ensure the satisfaction of
users toward this application. The evaluation of ShopIndoor
had been conducted based on four factors; usefulness, ease of
use, efficiency and aesthetic. The questions for each factor are
adopted from the previous researches [18–21]. Usefulness
measures whether this application is needed and useful to
users, efficiency provide subjective data on how the
application will help the user to reach a destination with a
short time, ease of use will find out whether the functions in
the application are easy to use and the contents are easy to

The ShopIndoor application enhances navigation by allowing users to register and log in, after which they can access various functions such as viewing a shop list, searching for shops, and viewing a location map . Users can select specific floors and view a map for each, facilitating easier navigation of Lowyat Plaza’s multiple levels . The application incorporates real-time updates of the user's position and allows users to search for specific shops based on categories or keywords, displaying navigation or promotional information as needed .

Siok Yee Tan et al. adopted a structured methodological approach in developing and evaluating the ShopIndoor application, which included designing a framework incorporating Wi-Fi Positioning System (WiPS) technology for real-time indoor navigation . The methodology also involved creating use case diagrams and specifications to identify user requirements and application functionalities systematically . For evaluation, the team conducted usability testing, measuring factors such as usefulness, ease of use, efficiency, and aesthetics through a survey with diverse participants . This comprehensive approach ensured the application met user needs and facilitated validation of its performance in real-world scenarios .

Wi-Fi Positioning Systems (WiPS) offer several advantages over traditional GPS for indoor navigation. GPS signals struggle with penetration through solid structures, making them unreliable inside buildings . In contrast, WiPS utilizes existing Wi-Fi networks, which are prevalent in public settings like shopping malls, for accurate position tracking without additional infrastructure . WiPS's efficiency increases with higher user density, resulting in more accurate positioning as it leverages multiple data points from Wi-Fi access points to triangulate locations . This makes it a superior choice for indoor environments where GPS falls short .

Users face challenges in indoor navigation due to the complex layouts and design similarities in large enclosed shopping malls, making traditional GPS unreliable for precise location tracking indoors . WiPS addresses these challenges by using existing Wi-Fi infrastructure to determine user locations, eliminating the need for additional hardware .
