PROJECT TITLE:

Every Day Counts

"Daily effort, daily improvement — because every math moment matters."
(A Daily Math Recovery and Reinforcement Routine for Junior High School Learners)
Proponent:
Judy-Ann Gurion
Toppan Integrated School
School Year 2025–2026
Project Description:
Every Day Counts is a classroom-based innovation designed to support junior high school
learners who struggle with basic math skills. It involves a consistent, 10-minute daily routine
at the start of every math class. The activities are focused on reinforcing foundational
mathematical concepts through simple, engaging, and level-appropriate tasks. With this
structured support system, learners build confidence, fluency, and readiness for higher-order
math lessons — one day at a time.
Focus:
Daily math skill-building routine to support slow learners.

Time Allotment:
First 10 minutes of every Math class.

Target Group:
Grades 7–10 (all learners, but especially those with weak math foundations)

What will it give:

 It gives them a predictable start that builds math confidence.
 It reviews basic math skills without overwhelming them.
 It supports all grade levels with leveled or tiered content.
 It maximizes every Math period for catch-up learning.

HOW TO IMPLEMENT?
1. Introduce to the learners
 Emphasize that it's a daily booster to strengthen their math skills
Note: “We’ll spend 10 minutes each day doing fun and fast tasks to make you
better at math. It’s not graded — it’s to make you stronger.”
2. Set a Fixed Time and Signal
 First 10 minutes of every Math period, with a bell sound.
 This builds habit. Learners will come to expect it.
3. Prepare the Daily Tasks
 Each day focuses on a basic math skill. We can rotate by week or follow a
weekly pattern:

4. Use Level Tags or Color Codes

 To support differentiation, Group learners silently or allow self-choice — avoid
labeling kids verbally.
 Red for beginners, Yellow for developing and green for proficient.

5. Track Progress with a “Math Tracker”

 Simple checklist or sticker chart per student
Example: “I mastered addition!” →
Weekly goal = at least 3 stars per learner

6. Monitor and Adjust

Observe:
 Are students engaged or overwhelmed?
 Do they finish on time?
 Are they improving?

Make adjustments:
 Reduce or increase task number
 Use more visual tools
 Add manipulatives (like counters or number lines)
