Vector Problems – Printable Sheet

1. Angle Between Two Vectors

Vectors a and b have magnitudes √3 and 2 respectively.
If a · b = √6, find the angle between them.

2. Projection of a Vector
Find the projection of the vector i + 3j on the vector 3i + k.

3. Prove Perpendicularity
Show that:
|a/|a| - b/|b|| = √2 if a ⊥ b and |a| = |b|.

4. Vector Equation of a Line

Find the vector equation of the line passing through point A(2, -1, 3) and parallel to the line:
r = i + 2j - 3k + λ(2i - j + k).

5. Parallelogram from Vectors

If vectors a, b, c are non-coplanar, prove that the points A = a, B = a + b, C = a + b + c, D = a +
c form a parallelogram.

6. Collinearity (Method: Vectors)

Prove that the following sets of points are collinear:
(i) A(1, 6, 3), B(4, 1, -2), C(10, -9, -12)
(ii) A(10, 10, 3), B(2, -1, 3), C(3, 5, 3)

7. Collinearity (More Practice)

Using vector method, prove that the following are collinear:
(i) A(6, -7, -2), B(2, -1, 4), C(14, -13, -8)
(ii) A(2, -3, 2), B(-2, 7, 3), C(-3, 10, 4)
(iii) A(3, 2, 5), B(1, 0, 3), C(4, 3, 7)
8. Dependent Vectors and Projections
Let vectors a, b, c satisfy: |a| = 1, |b| = 2, |c| = 3
If the projection of b along a equals the projection of a along b, and c is dependent on both,
find: 3a - 2b + 2c

9. Vector Projection
Find the projection of vector: a = 2i - j + k along b = i - 2j + 2k

10. Angle Between Two Vectors

Find the angle between the vectors: (2/3)i + (3/4)j and (2/3)i - (3/4)j

11. Proportion of a Vector

Find the proportion of the vector: (3/4)i + j on the vector i + j

12. Unit Vector from Scalar Multiplication

If λ is a non-zero scalar and v is a unit vector, prove that (λv)/|λv| is also a unit vector.

13. Scalar Projection

Find the scalar projection of the vector: 3i - j - 2k on the vector: 2i - 2j - k

14. Vectors and Perpendicularity

If |a| = |b| and (a + b) is perpendicular to a, prove that: a · b = -|a|²

15. Unit Vector and Axes

A unit vector r makes equal acute angles with the coordinate axes.
Show that the projection of r on a = i + j + k is 1/√3

16. Equally Inclined Vector

If i, j, k are mutually perpendicular vectors of equal magnitude, show that the vector: i + j + k
is equally inclined to each of them.
