INSTRUCTIONS TO THE MAKER

1. The maker should read the question paper carefully and underline/circle key
instructions in questions before marking.

2. Use the memorandum as a marking guide and give credit to learners who
provide well-reasoned qualified arguments and statements are expected from
the questions.

3. When awarding marks in SECTION B AND C, learners must answer in full


sentences.

4. Hence, within the 3 or 4 mark questions, learners could and should be


awarded 4, 3, 2 and 1 or a 0 depending on the level of answers given.

5. In all responses produced by the learners, diction should be made between


the excellent, good satisfactory and the poor.

6. A tick () must be placed at the fact that is being awarded.

7. A tick () equal one mark.

8. Marks for sub-sections must be totalled on the right-hand side of the answer
sheet.

9. Marks for each section must be totaled on the left-hand of the answer sheet.

10. The total mark for each section must be transferred to the end of the leaner’s
script and totalled.

11. The final total for the script must be transferred to the front of the cover page.

12. The HOD/school moderator must clearly indicate how marks were allocated
with a mark in a BLACK PEN.

13. The marking guide consists of 10 pages including the cover page.

2.1.1List three types of goals and give one example for each example.

• Short term–goals are achieved in a short time- a week, month or few


months,they usually achieved in less than one year. e.g. Getting 80% in
monthly test.
• Medium term- goals are in the middle, they are shorter than long –term goals
and longer than short-term goals – they are usually achieved in one to
three years. Passing with bachelors at the end of the year.
• Long term goals – future life goals – are usually achieved in more than
three years’ time.Becoming a gynecologist  (3×2=6)

2.1.2 Sarah’s goals is to become a Civil Engineer. To achieve her goal she must be
able to set smart goals. Discuss the smart rule basing it to Sarah’s goal.

When different racial groups support national teams it unify them
When you watch national teams you will feel united in spite of the diversity of
the crowd and nation 

6.1 Define “unequal power relations”

Consider the definition given below and put a tick at a well expressed definition as
follows:
• Unequal power relations manifest themselves in situations where women’s
right are violated  because of the perceived power of men over women in
any relationship  and it may results in domestic violence, rape and even
incest. 

6.2 Discuss how unequal power relations may lead to rape and or incest.

The connection between unequal power relations and rape/incest must be clear. Put
a tick at a well explained answer as follows:
• Men may have an opinion that they own women because of their position in
families.  Men may believe that marrying a woman takes away her dignity
and a sense of being unhuman resulting in forced sex. 
• Some men are breadwinners and the poor women are at the receiving end of
that unfortunate situation.  That may then give men a leverage to do as they
please with women with the eventual effect that some are raped.
• Some men care for their stepdaughter. They would do all sorts of favours
that could expose the girl child to all sorts of abuse including rape. 

6.3 Critically discuss the role of certain cultural practices and or beliefs in the
promotion of unequal power relation.

The connection between a cultural belief and the unequal power relation must be
clear. Consider any THREE of the following. Put a tick at the fact and explanation as
follows:
• Once men pay lobola, some believe it gives them ownership rights√ and the
women’s feelings and views are no longer important in the family. √
• Kids from families where male chauvinism is practiced √ get socialized and
would do the same to their families.√
• Women would believe it is okay for men to have an upper hand in the
relationship √ as they are heads of families and that may lead to abuse. √
• The belief that women are submissive to men in certain cultures, makes them
weak√ and men can take advantage of that leading to rape/ incest. √

6.4 Give three reasons why some women do not report incidents of domestic
violence.
The learner must give sound reasons. Consider any three of the following and put
ticks as shown.
• Most women are dependent on men for their livelihood. If they report such
incidents they risk losing their quality of life. √
• Most women are scared to report because of family pressure. The issues are
discussed by family and the victim is given a slap on the wrist. √
• Some do not report such incidents for the fear of embarrassment. They
become scared to report those incidents for what people may say. √
• Some women are threatened by their perpetrators. They may indicate
willingness and preparedness to kill should they report. √
