MSC .1/Circ.1222 requires a change in the Annual Performance Test (APT) procedure. Furuno USA, Inc. is
now required to issue the Certificate of Compliance (COC) for all APT’s performed on Furuno VDR’s and
SVDR’s in North America. The new procedure will require the servicing dealer to perform the APT and
submit the APT Test Report and VDR Performance Test Data to Furuno USA for review.

Furuno USA will then review the data, confirm it is in compliance, log and maintain records of the survey,
issue the COC and send it to the dealer for distribution to the vessel.

Furuno USA charges flat rate fee of $250.00 for the APT review and COC which includes a secondary re-
review of the VDR Test Report data should a deficiency be found making the VDR/SVDR non compliant
during the initial review process.

VDR / SVDR PERFORMANCE TEST DATA

The following Test Report Data must be submitted and reviewed prior to a VDR Annual
Certificate of Compliance being issued by Furuno.

9 VDR/SVDR Annual Performance Test Report Form. [M-366-014] AP1-1/3-0907, 0910 and 0912.
Other versions of Performance Test Forms will not be accepted. Please use your Service Report
or Work Order/Job Number as the Report Number on the APT Test Report Form.

9 Technicians Furuno Certification Number. (Applies to technicians who attended Furuno USA
Technical Training in 2006 and later.)

9 A Live-Player Pro or Live Player V4 Status Monitor or Conning Screen Capture (Depending on
System Version) indicating the minimum 12:00 Hour period of recorded data on the DRU.
Multiple Screen Captures combined to indicate the minimum 12:00 period are accepted only if
the Track Dates and Time Periods are in immediate chronological order.

9 A Live-Player Pro or Live Player V4 Serial Monitor or Serial Screen Capture also indicating the
minimum 12:00 Hour period of recorded data on the DRU. Multiple Screen Captures combined
to indicate the minimum 12:00 period are accepted only if the Track Dates and Time Periods are
in immediate chronological order.

VDR / SVDR PERFORMANCE TEST GUIDELINES

9 No Errors should be indicated on the RAP prior to conducting the Annual Performance Test
(APT). All errors must be cleared prior to beginning the APT.

9 Confirm all vessel information; IMO Number, Name, Flag, Class are correct in the VDR’s
configuration and on the Test Report Form.

9 The RAP has the Red Label, (Open After Incident) over the SAVE button.
9 The DCU should be locked and the Key kept in a secure location.
9 The expiration dates of the Acoustic Beacon and Reserve Power Source Batteries are greater
than 1 year from the date of the Annual Performance Test.

9 The Radar (Post Display Image) when connected must be properly calibrated and intelligible.
9 The means to extract Data from the system, Software, Data Extraction Instructions and Cabling
are stored at the location of the VDR.

9 The DRU is properly located, sealed, secured and in good condition. The Paint must not be
faded and the reflective decals intact.

9 Audio Inputs including VHF Audio should be intelligible and free of excessive noise.
9 The DRU must indicate a recording time meeting or exceeding the 12:00 Hour minimum period.
9 The Software Versions must be the latest. VR5000 V3.24; VR3000, VR3000/S (Version 1
Systems) 1.02, (Version 2 Systems) 2.25 or later.
Please disregard the software version statement indicated on the [M-366-014 AP1-1/3-0912 Test
Report Form. The accepted Software Versions are as listed above.

NEW Performance Test Forms [M-366-014] AP1-1/3-0907, 0910,

Furuno has received BSH Approval for APT Performance Testing VDR / SVDR Annual
Performance Test Procedures using the new Test Report Form [M-366-014] AP1-1/3-0907,
0910 and 0912 or later which includes an additional procedure for the backup battery test. All
previous versions of the Furuno APT Test Report forms which do not include the additional
battery test procedure are no longer accepted for VDR/SVDR APT. The version number of the
APT Test Report Form is located in the upper right hand corner of the test report form.
Please try to use the latest available versions of Test Report Forms which may be found
on the Furuno USA Website.

1. From the Handle Configuration Sub-Menu of the Web Configurator

Press the “Download” button.
2. When prompted to open or save the file press the “Save” button.
3. From the “Save As” Dialog box chose the location on the computer to
save the file to. Save the file using the “Ships [Link]”. Example
“APT_Performer.ini.”
1.2 SYSTEM LOG
1. From the Main screen of the Web
Configurator press the “Show log”
button.

2. Place the cursor anywhere in the system

log box and right click.
3. Choose “Select All.”

4. All text contents within the system log

box will now be highlighted.
5. Right Click again and choose “Copy” to
copy or press [Ctrl + C] to copy the
system log contents into the computer’s
clipboard memory.

6. Create a new Text Document on

the computer named [Link].
7. Open the Text Document.
8. Right Click again and choose
“Paste” or press [Ctrl + V] to copy
the contents of the system log file
from clipboard into the new Text
Document.
9. Save the modified Text
Document.
1.3 LIVE PLAYER PRO DRU CONNECTION

1. Press the PC Icon to create a Live

Player Pro connection.

2. Select DRU as the connection source.

3. Press the “Analyze” button to display

the available DRU Track information.

4. Press the “Connect” button to establish

the Live Player connection with the
DRU.

Confirm the Vessel name

is correct. If not log into
the VDR and correct the
name using the Web
Configurator.

If the “Load of Player-Configuration

from source unsuccessful” dialog
box appears, click”OK” to continue.

NOTE VR5000
A Powered IEE1394 Fire Wire Repeater is required in order to
connect to the VR5000 DRU.
1.4 STATUS MONITOR SCREEN CAPTURE

Must meet or exceed 12 Hours.

The Status Monitor Screen Capture is taken while playing back data from the DRU using Live Player Pro
V3.20 and a IEEE1394 (Firewire) connection between the computer and the VDR, or directly from the DRU
using an externally powered IEEE1394 Firewire Hub or adapter to power the DRU device. Please note the
VR-5000 Status Monitor Tab is used for both VR-3000 and VR-5000 systems.

Do not take the Status Monitor Screen Capture while connected “Live” or while connected to the Backup
HDD.

When connecting to the DRU through the VDR be sure to temporarily disconnect the Backup HDD from the
system.

For VR-3000/S SVDR Systems which do not have a Radar Interface installed or are not recording Post
Display Radar Images please provide the Status Monitor Screen Capture and not a Screen Capture taken
from the AIS Display of Live Player Pro.

Create the Screen Captures by pressing and holding the Control (Ctrl) key on the computer keyboard and
pressing the Print Screen key to copy the image into memory of the PC. Paste this image into either a Word
Document *.doc using Microsoft Word or Office compatible application, or open Windows Paint and paste
and save the image in PNG (*.png) or JPEG (*.jpg) format.
1.5 SERIAL MONITOR SCREEN CAPTURE

Must meet or exceed 12 Hours.

The Serial Monitor screen capture this is taken while playing back data from the DRU using Live Player Pro
V3.20 and a IEEE1394 (Firewire) connection between the computer and the VDR, or may be taken directly
from the DRU using an externally powered IEEE1394 Firewire Hub or adapter to power the DRU device.
Please note the VR-5000 Serial Monitor Tab is used for both VR-3000 and VR-5000 systems.

This screen capture must also be taken while connected to the DRU as Serial Screen Captures taken while
connected Live or to the Backup HDD are not accepted.

When connecting directly to the VDR be sure to disconnect the Backup HDD from the system.

Create the Screen Captures by pressing and holding the Control (Ctrl) key on the computer keyboard and
pressing the Print Screen key to copy the image into memory of the PC. Paste this image into either a Word
Document *.doc using Microsoft Word or Office compatible application, or open Windows Paint and paste
and save the image in PNG *.png format.
1.6 CONFIRMING SOFTWARE VERSIONS

Confirm VDR System Program version by pressing the Web-Status button from the Main Page of the Web
Configurator. The System Program Version is shown in the upper left corner of the first line of the Web-
Status display.

If the software needs to be updated, complete the APT prior to performing the software update. Upgrade
the software versions as required, resave the configuration file and note the original and upgraded
software versions on the APT Test Report Form. Include the configuration file with the software update
with the VDR Test Report Data.

VERSION 2 SYSTEMS

2.1 CONFIGURATION FILE

IMPORTANT:
Confirm the following Vessel Information is correct in the VDR’s
configuration, under the Vessel Tab of the VDR Maintenance Viewer
application. Incorrect Config Data will result in a deficiency.

2.1 CONFIGURATION FILE

1. From the menu bar of the VDR

Maintenance Viewer application
select “Maintenance.”

2. Scroll Down and select “VDR

Config Management.”

3. From the VDR Config

Management screen press the
“Download” button to download
the configuration data.

4. Once the Configuration Data is

downloaded to the Maintenance
Viewer the “Export to...” button
will no longer be grayed out.
Press the “Export to…” button to
save it to the computer.

5. Save the configuration data to the

computer using the “Vessel’s
Name.” Example
“APT_Performer.” Windows will
show the configuration file type
as “file” with no extension. The
configuration file is an xml
formatted file and may be viewed
using notepad.
2.2 SYSTEM LOG

1. Select the Event Tab of the VDR

Maintenance Viewer Application
to open the System Event Log.

2. Place the cursor in the Event

Log and “Left Click” to select or
Highlight an event.

3. Press the [Ctrl + A] keys to

select or highlight the entire
Event Log.

4. Press the [Ctrl + C] keys to copy

the Event Log into the
computer’s clipboard memory.

5. Create a new Text Document on

the computer the “Vessels
Name”_ [Link]. Example
“APT_Performer_Log.txt.”

6. Open the Text Document.

7. Right Click and choose “Paste”

or press [Ctrl + V] to copy the
contents of the system log file
from clipboard into the new Text
Document.
8. Save the modified Text
Document.
2.3 LIVE PLAYER V4 DRU CONNECTION

1. Launch the Live Player V4 Application

2. From the “Source Select” dialog box

select “DRU” as the source from the
drop down box.

3. Press the “Analyze Track” button to

display available track information.

4. Select a track for playback having a 12 hour

or longer recording period from the
available track list. If multiple tracks are
provided to meet the 12 hour minimum
repeat this process for each track.

5. Press the “Connect” Button to play back

the selected track.
2.4 CONNING SCREEN CAPTURE
Must meet or exceed 12 Hours.

The Live Player V4 Conning Screen Capture is taken while playing back data from the DRU using Live
Player V4 build 1.11 or later and a IEEE1394 (Firewire) connection between the computer and the VDR, or
directly from the DRU using an externally powered IEEE1394 Firewire Hub or adapter to power the DRU
device. Please note the Version 2 system DRU may only be connected to via Firewire and not via Ethernet.

Do not take the Live Player V4 Conning Screen Capture while connected “Live” or while connected to the
Backup HDD.

For VR3000/S SVDR Version 2 Systems which are not recording Post Display Radar Images please provide
the Conning Screen Capture and not a Screen Capture taken from the AIS Display of Live Player V4.

Create the Screen Captures by pressing and holding the Control (Ctrl) key on the computer keyboard and
pressing the Print Screen key to copy the image into memory of the PC. Paste this image into either a Word
Document *.doc using Microsoft Word or Office compatible application, or open Windows Paint and paste
and save the image in PNG (*.png) or JPEG (*.jpg) format.
2.5 SERIAL SCREEN CAPTURE

Must meet or exceed 12 Hours.

The Live Player V4 Serial Screen Capture is taken while playing back data from the DRU using Live Player
V4 build (1.11) or later and a IEEE1394 (Firewire) connection between the computer and the VDR, or directly
from the DRU using an externally powered IEEE1394 Firewire Hub or adapter to power the DRU device.
Please note the Version 2 system DRU may only be connected to via Firewire and not via Ethernet.

Do not take the Live Player V4 Conning Screen Capture while connected “Live” or while connected to the
Backup HDD.

Create the Screen Captures by pressing and holding the Control (Ctrl) key on the computer keyboard and
pressing the Print Screen key to copy the image into memory of the PC. Paste this image into either a Word

2.6 CONFIRMING SOFTWARE VERSIONS

Confirm VDR System Program version from the “Software” Tab of the Maintenance Viewer application. The
VDR System Program Version should be 2.25 or later.

Please note Version 2 systems operating on System Program version 2.05 must be upgraded as this
System Version is a Beta release and does not carry BSH Type approval. Please contact FUSA for details.

Confirm RAP and AP versions are 1.04 or later as indicated above. To confirm RAP version press both the
+ and – keys on the RAP simultaneously, as the version indicated above may be incorrect, and change as
required.

When an IF-8530 Remote Junction box is connected (VR-3000 VDR) confirm The RJB versions as 1.05.

If the software needs to be updated, complete the APT prior to performing the software update. Upgrade
the Software versions as required, resave the configuration file and note the original and upgraded
software versions on the APT Test Report Form. Include the configuration file with the software update
with the VDR Test Report Data.
