1 Scope
This Technical Instruction (TA) applies to the following Jenbacher Engines:
• Type 2 engines
• Type 3 engines
• Type 4 engines
• Type 6 engines
2 Purpose
This Technical Instruction (TA) describes the lifting of Jenbacher Engines (without generator) and the
correct use and maintenance of the load suspension device (lifting equipment, chains, ropes, etc.).
3 Safety information
WARNING
Danger from unauthorised start-up
Serious injuries such as cutting, crushing or severing or shearing off of body parts due to
unintentional contact with rotating or moving machine parts.
Ø Shut down the engine in accordance with TA 1100-0105.
Ø Secure the engine against unauthorised restarting in accordance with TA 2300-0010.
WARNING
Personal injury
Failure to use personal protective equipment and to comply with safety instructions or
employee protection information may lead to personal injury.
Ø Wear the relevant personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ø Observe the safety instructions as per TA 2300-0005.
Ø Observe the employee protection information as per TA 2300-0001.
WARNING
Overhead load
Death or serious injury due to exposure to falling objects from suspended overhead load in
the event of wrong lifting.
Ø Do not stand under suspended loads.
Ø Do not use lashing points for lifting. These are designed for transport securing only!
Ø Refer to the specific lifting instruction for proper transport, lifting, positioning and
installation of genset, spare parts and auxiliary equipment.
Ø Ensure proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is available, is used and is in good
order and condition:
Ø Wear head protection.
Ø Wear safety footwear.

5 General instructions
• is not moved across sharp edges without appropriate measures being taken,
• is not used to lift loads in excess of its lifting capacity as specified on the plate (lifting capacity plate,
type plate, label),
• is not loaded asymmetrically without the necessary precautions being taken, and
Maintenance
This load suspension device should by checked annually by a technical expert for external faults,
deformations, erosion or corrosion, cracks and fractures, and should be withdrawn from use in the case of
unacceptable defects. No changes may be made during the maintenance that have an adverse effect on
the functioning and lifting capacity of the load suspension device.
Restrictions on use
In the case of high temperatures, the lifting capacity of the load suspension device should be reduced
accordingly. Before being used in an aggressive (e.g. corrosive, acidic) harmful environment, check
whether use is permitted.
Permissible temperature range for lifting operations: -20 °C to +50 °C
Never use the load suspension device under conditions where the load could accidentally become
detached.

Cylinder number 1 is located on the left side of the engine when facing the engine flywheel.
The direction of force of the lifting chains must correspond to the V-angle of the engine (70° for Type 3
engines) – in other words, it must act in the direction of the cylinders. If this is not the case, the chain
length must be adjusted to ensure such a situation.
The maximum permissible angle of inclination in the longitudinal direction of the engine is 6°. If the angle
exceeds 6°, stop the lifting procedure immediately and redetermine the centre of gravity. If may be
necessary to readjust the lifting beam and/or change the positioning of the lifting lugs!
The lifting beam (part no. 301287) can be obtained from INNIO Jenbacher GmbH & Co OG.

In the case of an Emergency Block for Type 4, engines, the lifting points (part no. 1231218 / 1231219 –
swivel hoist rings) must be fitted at the top of the crankcase and symmetrically to its centre in the
longitudinal direction. The positions are shown in the following tables. The lifting points replace the
fastening bolts for the crankcase cover plates.

The lifting chains must not touch any engine parts (typically ignition rails for Longblocks); if necessary,
disassemble the relevant engine parts.
The direction of force of the lifting chains must correspond to the V-angle of the engine (70° for Type 4
engines) – in other words, it must act in the direction of the cylinders. If this is not the case, the chain

Cylinder number 1 is located on the left side of the engine when facing the engine flywheel.
The lifting chains must not touch any engine parts; if necessary, disassemble the relevant engine parts.
The direction of force of the lifting chains must correspond to the V-angle of the engine (60° for Type 6
engines) – in other words, it must act in the direction of the cylinders. If this is not the case, the chain
length must be adjusted to ensure such a situation.
The maximum permissible angle of inclination in the longitudinal direction of the engine is 6°. If the angle
exceeds 6°, stop the lifting procedure immediately and redetermine the centre of gravity. If may be
