Gas Laws and Calculations Worksheet

The document contains a series of chemistry problems related to gas laws and calculations, including pressure, volume, and temperature relationships. It includes scenarios involving gas mixtures, reactions, and the determination of molar mass. Each problem requires the application of gas law principles to find specific values such as pressure, volume, and partial pressures.

Chapter 5 worksheet:

1. A 5.00L flask contains 0.60 g O2 at a temperature of 220C. What is the pressure in atm inside the
flask?

2. A particular balloon is designed by a manufacturer to be inflated to a volume of no more than

2.50L. If the balloon is filled with 2.0L helium at sea level, is released, and rises to an altitude where the
atmospheric pressure is only 500mm Hg, will the balloon burst? (sea level pressure is 1atm, and assume
that the temp remains constant)

3. The volume of a gas is 5.80 L, measured at 1.00 atm. What is the pressure of the gas in mmHg if
the volume is changed to 9.65 L? (the temperature remains constant).

4. How many liters of chlorine gas at 25C and 0.950 atm can be produced by the reaction of 12.0 g
of MnO2?

MnO2(s) + 4HCl(aq) → MnCl2(aq) + 2H2O(l) + Cl2(g)

5. A tank contains a mixture of 52.5 g oxygen gas and 65.1 g carbon dioxide gas at 27°C. The total
pressure in the tank is 9.21 atm. Calculate the partial pressures of each gas in the container.

6. Consider 3 identical flasks filled with different gases.

Flask A: CO at 760 torr and 0°C
Flask B: N2 at 250 torr and 0°C
Flask C: H2 at 100 torr and 0°C
a. In which flask will the molecules have the greatest average kinetic energy?

b. In which flask will the molecules have the greatest average velocity?

7. What is the molar mass of Freon-11 gas if its density is 6.13 g/L at STP?
