Hurdles

In the middle of the semester, my partner and I were faced with some worrisome news that we

would be split up from our original group of 4. Several thoughts entered our heads, such as how

we would complete all the assignments on time while balancing the rest of our classes. We

figured that since the rest of the class, except for 1 or 2 other groups, were more than just

pairs, this would put us at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the class. In order to

overcome this, we decided to communicate frequently on Instagram so that we would stay

ahead of our assignments and make sure projects were completed by the appropriate deadline.

From this experience, I learned that having a larger team isn’t always more sufficient and by

having a smaller group it makes communicating easier and sometimes results in better quality

work.

Positive experiences

Successes this semester include completing it, while it might sound blatant, completing a

challenging cegep course requires hard work and consistency. Showing up to every class and

completing all assignments well and on time is an achievement by itself and is something to

take pride in. The most positive moment this semester was during our first class, where we had

the chance to interview our peers. Seeing everybody come together and take their work

surveys seriously was genuinely enjoyable. For weeks, we all worked hard to make sure our

surveys and interview questions were coherent and followed all the guidelines, that class gave
us a chance to put our work to the test in a friendly, stress-free way, as we had the chance to

discuss with those who we’ve known since the beginning of the semester

Future goals

While long-term future goals are sometimes difficult to explain as the future is unprecedented,

short-term goals help one stay on track and continue down the right path. In the short-term,

my future goals will consist of enjoying my winter break with family and friends after a hard-

fought semester. However, the experiences and hurdles I overcame this semester gave me the

proper tools to continue my academic journey with a few more tools in my toolbox. An example

of this is again looking back at the middle of the semester where our group got split up. Facing a

major change in the middle of the semester was stressful at moment but looking back, it taught

me how to deal with such as when a similar situation happens again somewhere down my

career, I’ll always have the reassurance that I’ve done this before and I came out on top.
