SS 1 MUSIC NOTE WEEK 8

Sight reading is the ability to read musical score. It also means that a piece of music
should be sung at first glance.
The best approach to sight reading or sight singing is by the use of both staff and solfa
notation in the early stages.
The following steps are to be considered before sight reading of a piece of music can take
place.
1. Check the clef and the key signature of the unseen given piece.
2. Consider the musical notes used, the time signature and number of bars of the piece.
3. Write out the musical notes by using the alphabets ABCDEFG and later change the
letters into solfa from the given key.
4. Play, sing or hum the given key on the keyboard by sight reading it to know how to
sing to the given melody.

EVALUATION
1. Define Sight reading
2. Define key signature
3. Write the letter names of the lines and spaced of both the treble and bass clef

ASSIGNMENT
1. The musical piece is notated on the stave. Students will transcribe from letter into solfa
notation after the mid-term break
