5. Work Procedure
5.1 Site Preparation
Obtain DM/RTA permit and NOC before excavation. Identify and protect existing services.
Set out pipe alignment using approved drawings.
5.2 Excavation
Excavate trench to correct depth and width with appropriate side slope or shoring. Trench
bottom to be free of water and soft materials. Trench depth to allow for pipe OD + bedding +
cover.
5.3 Bedding Preparation
Place 100mm to 150mm layer of compacted granular material. Ensure uniform bedding to
prevent point loading.
5.4 Pipe Laying
Lower uPVC pipes carefully into trench using slings. Lay pipes from downstream to
upstream. Use correct joint type and maintain alignment using laser level.
5.5 Jointing
Clean pipe ends and apply lubricant or solvent. Insert spigot into socket fully and ensure
proper insertion depth and watertight joints.
5.6 Inspection & Testing
Conduct visual inspection before backfilling. Perform hydrostatic test per DM specifications.
Record and submit testing reports.
5.7 Backfilling
Initial backfill with approved material up to 300mm above pipe crown. Final backfill with
excavated or approved material. Protect pipe with marker tape and warning mesh.
5.8 Surface Restoration
Reinstate roads, pavements, and landscaping as per RTA/DM specifications. Dispose surplus
materials at DM-approved locations.
