BEHAVIORS AND SKILLS EXPECTED OF EMPLOYEES IN THE MODERN

WORKPLACE

There are various behaviors expected of employees in the modern workplace. One key trait is
adaptability and flexibility. This refers to an employee’s ability to adjust easily to changing
circumstances (Kaplan, 2023). In today’s fast-paced and constantly evolving workplaces,
flexibility is a highly valued trait. It means being open to shifting responsibilities, changing
deadlines, new technologies and varying team dynamics without becoming overwhelmed.
Flexible employee can easily adjust their mindset, tasks and schedules to meet the needs of the
organization. For example, they may take on new roles, learn new skills quickly, or help cover
for colleagues when needed. This behavior shows a willingness to support the organization’s
goals and respond positively to change.

Teamwork and collaboration are also important behaviors in today’s working environment. This
refer to the behavior of working effectively and cooperatively with others to achieve share goals
(Denomme, McKinney & Shinn, 2021). It involves working effectively as a group, which
facilitates idea exchange and helps to solve challenges that may arise in the workplace. It also
improves efficiency, strengthens relationship, and supports organizational goals. In modern
workplaces, this behavior is essential input from multiple people with different skills and
responsibilities. Team-oriented employees communicate clearly, listen actively, respect diverse
perspectives, and contribute to group efforts. Collaboration also involves trust, shared
accountability, and willingness to help others to succeed. These behaviors foster a positive work
environment and improve overall team performance. For example, in organizations like Solar

5
Aid Limited, collaboration ensures that departments such as operations, marketing, and logistics
work together smoothly to deliver solar solutions, benefiting both the business and its
communities.

In addition to displaying the right behaviors, employees must also possess essential skills to
perform their jobs effectively. Skills are abilities that enable individuals to complete tasks
efficiently. One crucial skill is self- management skill, which means the abilities of an individual
to take responsibility for their own behavior, time and performance without constant supervision.
Key self-management attributes include problem-solving, clear communication, punctuality, and
organizational ability. Self-management reduces stress, supports time management, and
encourages personal growth. In the modern workplace, self-management is considered as a core
skill that enhances both personal productivity and team efficiency. For example, in organizations
like Solar Aid Limited, employees who manage themselves well can work independently in field
locations, make decisions aligned with company goals, and maintain high productivity without
needing close supervision.

Time management and organization are also highly valued skills. Time management refers to the
process of planning and controlling how much time is spent on specific tasks to increase
efficiency (Coursera, 2024). When employee’s priorities tasks appropriately, which can increase
productivity, deliver higher quality work, and make better decision making. In essence, time
management empowers individuals to take control of their daily activities, leading to improved
performance.

In conclusion, this assignment has key behaviors and skills of employees in the modern

SKILL SET AGAINST THE REQUIREMENT OF THE ROLE IN THE

ORGANIZATION

14
Skill set refers to the knowledge, abilities, and experiences needed to perform a job effectively
(Alison, 2024). Skills enhance professional competency and enable individuals to succeed in
their roles. The comparison of my skill set with the requirements of the role in the organization
have been highlighted below.

As outlined in the job requirements, I hold an Advanced Diploma in Business management from
Zomba Institute of Management and Accountancy (ZIMA). This qualification makes me a strong
candidate for the position.

I also have two years’ experience as a Field Marketing Representative at Daily Sun Limited. In
this role, I performed various duties, including promoting products and services, provide sales
support, training and educating customers as well as handling reporting and documentation.
Through this experience, I developed excellent communication skills, strong sales ability,
customer service expertise as well as adaptability, flexibility and problem solving skills. These
attributes contributed to my effectiveness in the role.

In addition, the job vacancy highlights the importance of communication skills, which I possess.
Communication plays a critical role in the modern workplace .When employees are able to
communicate and organize clearly and concisely, it facilitates idea sharing, effective decision
making, and problem solving. These skills are essential for enhancing productivity, and I believe
they will positively contribute to the success of Solar Aid Limited.

In conclusion, the skills and qualifications discussed above align well with the requirements of
the role. I am confident in my ability to deliver positive results and contribute meaningfully to
the success of Solar Aid limited.

EXPLAINATION ON HOW THE ORGANISATION MIGHT USE DIFFERENT

SCREENING TECHNIQUES DURING THE SCREENING PROCESS TO ASSES MY
SKILL SET.

15
Screening techniques are methods organization or employers use during recruitment and
selection process to identify the most suitable candidate for specific (Team, 2022). Below are the
screening techniques that Solar Aid Limited might use to assess my skill set during the screening
process.

To begin with, aptitude test is the first tool that a recruiter can use during the screening process
to assess my skill set. An aptitude test is often the initial method recruiters use to evaluate my
skillset during the screening process. Recruiters use this tool to evaluate a candidate’s potential
to succeed in specific tasks. These include numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, and spatial
awareness test (Foster, 2017). It also involves an exam that is used to determine an individual’s
skill to succeed in a given activity and using this method recruiters can determine my suitability
for the role during the screening process.

Recruiters may also assess my skill set by using assessment centers. Assessment centers are
structured evaluations that employers use to gauge candidates suitability for a job. During an
assessment center, various activities are conducted, such as group exercise to test leadership,
communication, and teamwork skills. Presentations may be used to assess confidence and public
speaking abilities, while case studies can evaluate problem-solving and analytical skills. Role-
plays, social events and written tests are also commonly included.

Furthermore, recruiters may also assess my skill set using background check and references.
Back ground check and references involve reviewing a candidate’s past records and speaking
with previous employers. Recruiters may contact my previous employers to verify my
trustworthiness and experiences. They also check my educational qualifications and conduct a
criminal background check to determine my suitability for the role.

Finally, curriculum vitae screening can also be used to quickly asses my skill set. CV screening
allows employers quickly assess my education background, work history, certifications and
technical skills. This helps to verify whether I meet the minimum requirements for the role and
provides an initial understanding of my capabilities.

In summary, these are the key screening techniques that Solar Aid Limited might use to evaluate
my skills during the recruitment process.

manager during my first six month of work to enhance my future performance.

conflicts or misunderstandings, I will remain open-minded, focus on the message and identify
the key ideas that can help improve my performance in the work place.

Whether the feedback is positive or constructive, I will strive to fully understand its meaning.
Before responding, I will take time to identify the key points and, if necessary, ask questions to
clarify any areas that are unclear. This approach will ensure that I gain a complete understanding
of the expectations and suggested improvements.

Based on my reflection, I will develop a personal development plan using the SMART criteria-
Specific, Measurable, Attainable, After understanding the message I will reflect on my
performance .This reflection will help to know my strength and weakness and know all the areas
of improvement.
