Resultant Forces in Statics Analysis

This document outlines the teaching learning outcomes for a module on the resultant of force systems, focusing on both parallel and non-parallel force systems. It includes key concepts such as the moment of a force, Varignon’s Theorem, and various examples and exercises to determine resultant forces and their positions. Additionally, it provides reminders about homework deadlines and upcoming assessments.

Week 3 – Module 2A : Resultant of Force Systems

Teaching Learning Outcomes:

a. Understand the fundamental concepts of statics.
b. Determine the resultant of parallel and non-parallel force system and to establish equilibrium

Topics:
1. Resultant of Parallel Forces
2. Resultant of Non-Concurrent Force Systems

Teaching-Learning Activities:
1. Lecture
2. Learning Modules

Resultant of Parallel Forces:

Moment of a Force – about an axis or line is its measure of its ability to produce turning or twisting about
the
axis.

M= F x S
NOTE: Since it is rotation then the direction is either clockwise(+) or counterclockwise(-) about an axis.

Varignon’s Theorem: The moment of a force is equivalent to the sum of the moments of its components

E1: A parallel force system acts on the lever shown. Determine the magnitude, direction and position of
the R
