Assignment: Newspaper Article Review on Securities Laws, SEBI Actions, or IPOs

Objective:
This assignment will help students connect theoretical concepts from the syllabus with real-
world events, specifically related to securities laws, SEBI regulations, or Initial Public
Offerings (IPOs). It encourages critical thinking and reflection.

Instructions:

 Select a recent news article (published within the last year) related to one of the
following topics:
o SEBI actions (e.g., fines for insider trading, enforcement of regulations)
o IPO process (e.g., a company’s recent IPO or related developments)
o Buyback of securities by any corporation (e.g., recent buyback announcements
or regulatory approvals)
 Length: The review should be between 300-400 words.
 Structure of the Review:

1. Summary of the Article (150-200 words):

 Provide a brief summary of the article. Highlight key points, such as
what happened, when it occurred, and any major parties involved.
2. Link to Syllabus (100-150 words):
 Identify and explain how the article connects to any topic covered in
the course syllabus. Discuss how the real-world event reflects or
applies to the concepts you have learned in class.
3. Personal Reflection (50-100 words):
 Reflect on the significance of the event mentioned in the article. What
are your thoughts on the actions taken by the authorities (e.g., SEBI’s
enforcement)? How do you think it affects investors, companies, or the
market?

Additional Requirement:

 After submission, one question related to your article will be asked in class to test
your understanding of both the article and the associated syllabus topic. Be prepared
to discuss the content and answer questions during the session.

Example Topics:

 SEBI fines for insider trading.

 A company’s IPO process and the regulatory framework involved.
 Buyback of securities by a famous corporation like Reliance Industries or Tata
Consultancy Services.

Deadline:
13th February 2025

Evaluation Criteria:
 Relevance and Clarity of Article Summary: How clearly the article is summarized
and the key facts presented.
 Linkage to Syllabus: Clear connection to course topics with a well-explained relation
to the learned material.
 Personal Reflection: Depth of thought in personal reflections and how the student
interprets the significance of the event.
 Word Count: Adherence to the word limit (300-400 words).
 Class Participation: Quality of engagement when responding to the question asked
after submission.
