WAYS OF TAKING CARE OF DRAWING INSTRUMENTS
AND/OR DRAWING MATERIALS
CARES OF DRAWING INSTRUMENTS/MATERIALS
1. T-square should not be used as walking stick, cane or sword.
2. Never use compass or divider as paper holder.
3. When the drawing board is unused, cover the face with paper or place the board with
the face down.
4. Pins should not be used on drawing paper or board, instead use adhesive/masking tape.
5. Drawing board should not be used for any other purpose e.g. not used as chopping
board.
6. Do not use nails or sharp objects to inscribe your identities e.g. name, on your drawing
materials.
7. Keep all tools in their kit or pack before or after use.
8. Do not use the needle points of compass / divider to punch hole.
9. Do not step or sit on compasses and dividers.
10. Do not use blade or knife to cut something on the surface of your drawing board.
11. Keep your tools away from fire.
TITLE BLOCK AND SCALE
TITLE BLOCK: It is a small block, drawn at the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER of the drawing
paper, to give details on NAMES, DATE, SCALE USED, CLASS, SCHOOL, TITLE OF OBJECT
DRAWN AND EXAMINATION NUMBER.
BORDER LINES: They are lines that are DRAWN AT THE FOUR CORNERS and sides of the
drawing sheet, usually, 10mm or 1cm measurement.
SCALE: It is defined as a way of reducing or enlarging dimensions or measurement of an

object.
TYPES OF SCALE
1. FULL SCALE: In this type of scale, the given measurement is used exactly when re-
producing or drawing out the object. E.g. 1:1, 2:2, 5:5, 10:10 etc.
2. REDUCED SCALE: In this type of scale, the measurement of the drawn out shape is
smaller than the given measurement. E.g. 1:2, 1:5, 1:10, 1:100 etc.
3. ENLARGED SCALE: In this type of scale, the given measurement is smaller than the
measurement of the new shape or diagram. E.g. 2:1, 5:1, 10:1, 100:1 etc.
FREE HAND SKETCHING: It is the method of drawing, using PENCIL AND ERASER ONLY,
without the use of other drawing tools.
