1) Refraction involves change in the path of light due to change in the medium.

When a beam of light encounters another transparent medium, a part of light gets reflected back

SECTION-E

1) Hyperconjugation is a general stabilising interaction. It involves delocalisation of σ electrons of

C—H bond of an alkyl group directly attached to an atom of unsaturated system or to an atom with
an unshared p orbital. The σ electrons of C—H bond of the alkyl group enter into partial conjugation
with the attached unsaturated system or with the unshared p orbital. Hyperconjugation is

a permanent effect. To understand hyperconjugation effect, let us take an example of

(ethyl cation) in which the positively charged carbon atom has an empty p orbital. One of the C-H
bonds of the methyl group can align in the plane of this empty p orbital and the electrons
constituting the C-H bond in plane with this p orbital can then be delocalised into the empty p
orbital.
This type of overlap stabilises the carbocation because electron density from the adjacent σ bond
helps in dispersing the positive charge. In general, greater the number of alkyl groups attached to a
positively charged carbon atom, the greater is the hyperconjugation interaction and stabilisation of
the cation.

SECTION-D

1) Read the following passage and and answer the questions :

The process of formation of a mature female gamete is called oogenesis. Oogenesis is initiated
during the embryonic development stage when a couple of million gamete mother cells (oogonia) are
formed within each fetal ovary ; no more oogonia are formed and added after birth. These cells start
division and enter into prophase-I of the meiotic division and get temporarily arrested at that stage,
called primary oocytes. Each primary oocyte then gets surrounded by a layer of granulosa cells and
is called the primary follicle. A large number of these follicles degenerate during the phase from
birth to puberty. Therefore, at puberty only 60,000 - 80,000 primary follicles are left in each ovary.
The primary follicles get surrounded by more layers of granulosa cells and a new theca and are
called secondary follicles.
(i) Find out the correct statement :
(a) Primary follicle is with oogonia
(b) Primary follicle is with primary oocyte
(c) Secondary follicle is with secondary oocyte
(d) Tertiary follicle is with primary oocyte without antrum
(ii) Assertion (A) : Primary oocyte completes its first meiotic division in tertiary follicle.
Reason (R) : Antrum develops during secondary follicular stage.
(a) A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
(b) A and R are true and R is not the correct explanation of A
(c) A is true, R is false
(d) A is false, R is true
(iii) Read the following and arrange them in a sequence :
A → Ova B → Oogonia C → Primary Oocyte D → Secondary Oocyte E → Graafian
follicle
(a) A→C→B→D→E (b) C→D→E→A→B
(c) B→D→C→E→A (d) B→C→D→E→A

(c) Secondary follicle (d) Tertiary follicle

angle of deviation δ = π – 2i
δ =180o –140o
δ = 40o

2) u = –60 cm

f = 60 cm

7) For lens
Given, u = –15 cm, f = +10cm, v = ?

Distance of image from lens L1, v = 30 cm

For lens,
Distance of image from lens

The refracted rays from lens L2 becomes parallel to principal axis. It is possible only when
image formed by L1 lies at first focus of L2, i.e., at a distance of 10 cm from L2.
Separation between L1 and L2 = 30 + 10 = 40 cm. The distance between L2 and L3 may take
any value.

9) Given refractive index of the material of the prism μ = 1.5

Critical angle for the material

From the ray diagram, it is clear that angle of incidence i = 300 < C.
Therefore, the ray incident at the face AC will not suffer total internal reflection and merges
out through this face.

11) (i) It is angle subtended by an object / image at the eye. It decreases with increasing
distance of object / image from eye.

mirror image of each other.

19) The carbon atom of the carbonyl group of benzaldehyde is less electrophilic than carbon
atom of the carbonyl group present in propanal. The polarity of the carbonyl group is reduced
in benzaldehyde due to resonance as shown below and hence it is less reactive than propanal.

20)

In alcohol the negative charge is localised on oxygen while in phenoxide ion, the charge is
delocalised. The delocalisation of negative charge makes phenoxide ion more stable and
favours the ionisation of phenol.

31) No, they are not necessary. Apomixis is actually an alternative to sexual reproduction,
although the female sexual apparatus is used in the process. In apomicts, embryos can develop
directly from the nucellus. Therefore, there is no need for either pollination or fertilisation.

34) (a) Wind-pollinated flowers have light-weight, non-sticky, dry and winged pollens. The well
exposed stamens help in easy dispersal of pollen grains. The stigma is sticky, large and
feathery to trap pollen grains floating in the air. Numerous flowers are packed together to
form inflorescence. Insect-pollinated flowers are large, sticky and brightly coloured with honey
and nectar glands to attract insects. They are highly fragrant and the stigma is sticky.
(b) Both Yucca plant and the moth cannot complete their life cycles without each other. The
moth deposits its eggs in the locule of the ovary and the flower in turn, gets pollinated by the
moth. The larvae of the moth come out of the eggs as the seeds start developing.
