1. PROJECT OVERVIEW

This Method Statement outlines the detailed construction methodology, quality control measures, safety procedures,
and environmental mitigation strategies for the execution of the Belbari Sana Sahari Water Supply Project. The Works
consist of Construction of Deep Tube Well, Overhead Tank (OHT), Electrical and Electro-Mechanical Works,
Pipeline Works along with Supply and Delivery of Various Items Belbari Sanasahari Water Supply Project, Belbari
Municipality Ward No.-1,2,3,4, Morang. The entire construction work shall ensure compliance with Contract
Specifications, Standard Codes & Specifications & Employer’s Quality & Safety Requirements

2. PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The Objective of the project is Construction and development of deep tube wells, Construction of water treatment
plants/pressure filters. Construction of OHT, Supply and laying of SS, DI, GI and PE pipes and fittings for proposed
transmission and distribution lines, Supply and erection of transmission lines and other electrical connections
Construction of Water User Association’s Office building, meeting hall, pump operation houses, Generator house,
Chlorination house and Toilet with Septic Tank & Soak pit., Construction of Valve Chamber, Surface Valve Boxes,
Boundary Wall and Fencing and Supply and installation of pumps, generators, electrical panels, and it’s all related
accessories.
The Scope of Work includes:
 Surveys & Investigations: Conduct topographic, soil, lab, and hydrogeological investigations as needed,
including soil pH/resistivity and bearing capacity checks.
 Working Drawings: Prepare detailed working drawings for all work components.
 Access & Roads: Ensure site access by upgrading roads/bridges and arranging temporary ways if needed.
 Material Storage: Setup stockyards and storage for pipes, fittings, and equipment.
 Service Diversion: Manage temporary or permanent diversion and maintenance of existing utilities.
 Material Supply: Supply, transport, and ensure quality of all required materials and equipment, covering all
taxes and testing.
 Manpower: Provide full staffing (engineers, workers, etc.) and related accommodations, healthcare, and other
support.
 Equipment: Supply all necessary tools, machinery, spares, and consumables.
 Facilities: Build project offices, workshops, and facilities for all stakeholders.
 Construction Execution: Complete all necessary construction tasks, including excavation, pipe laying,
testing, and handling tight working spaces.
 Coordination: Cooperate and coordinate with other contractors on-site.
 Prepare as-built drawings, GIS data, and train employer staff in pipe laying techniques.
 Ensure professional execution with minimal disruption and no pending issues upon completion.

4. WORK PROCEDURE FOR CIVIL & OTHER WORKS

4.1 PRE-CONSTRUCTION WORK

4.1.1 Site Preparation & Clearance

 Survey & Layout:


o Conduct topographic survey using Total Station.
o Mark pipeline alignment, valve chambers, and structural foundations as per drawings.
 Site Clearance & Surface Dressing:
o Remove vegetation, debris, and obstructions.
o Stockpile reusable excavated material for backfilling.
o Disposing the surplus excavated earth within the approved premises.
 Site Office Setup
o Set up site office, labor camps, and material storage as per requirements
o Safety signage as per contract clauses.
 Utility Diversions & Other Services
o Diversion of Utilities such as electricity, telecommunications, water supply, etc. as per contract
specifications.
o Traffic Control & Vehicular access throughout project

4.2 EARTHWORKS & FOUNDATIONS

4.2.1 Earthwork

A) Pipeline Trenches Earthwork

 Excavate using Excavator (depth as per drawing).


 Side slopes stabilized as per soil conditions.
 Dispose surplus soil within site or approved dumping area.
o Depth: 1.5m (1:1 slope)
o Safety: Trench boxes for depths >1.2m
 Provide dry stone soling with bond stone blinding in trenches as per employer’s requirements.

B) Foundations Earthwork

o Excavate for valve chambers, pump house, and water tanks.


o Provide shoring if depth exceeds 1.5m.
o Shoring for depths >1.5m (timber planks + struts) as per specifications.
o Provide dry flat brick soling in foundation as per specifications.

C) Filling work

 Use excavated material in 150mm layers with compaction (95% MDD).


 Sand filling (if required) with proper watering and compaction.
 Bricks Bats Filling in designated area as per engineer instructions.

4.3 STRUCTURAL WORKS

4.3.1 Reinforcement Works

A. Reinforcement Handling & Preparation

A.1 Straightening & Cutting


 Bars shall be straightened to remove bends/kinks from transportation.
 Cutting shall be done as per bar bending schedule (BBS) and drawings.
 Prohibited: Heating bars for straightening or bending, which may damage the material.

A.2 Bending of Bars
 Cold bending shall be done as per IS 2502-1963.
 Hooks and bends shall match drawing specifications.
 Bundling: After cutting/bending, bars shall be grouped by mark numbers as per BBS.

B. Placing of Reinforcement

B.1 Fixing & Alignment


 Bars shall be placed in exact positions per structural drawings.
 Spacing: Minimum 25 mm or bar diameter (whichever is greater) between parallel bars.
 Supports:
 Use precast mortar blocks, plastic chairs, or approved spacers.
 Prohibited: Wooden blocks, broken bricks, or metal pipes.
 Tie Wires: All intersections shall be tied with 1.25 mm annealed wire.

C. Splicing of Reinforcement

C.1 Methods of Splicing


 Lapping: For bars ≤44 mm diameter.
 Mechanical/Butt Splicing: Mandatory for bars >44 mm.

B. Formwork Installation Requirements

 Forms shall be erected with tight joints to prevent cement mortar leakage.
 Surfaces in contact with fresh concrete shall be treated with:
o Non-staining mineral oil (for steel/plastic forms).
o Water (for timber forms) to prevent adhesion.
 Before reuse, all formwork shall be cleaned and reconditioned.
 Temporary openings shall be provided for cleaning, inspection, and concrete placement, then
properly closed to meet finish requirements.

C. Formwork Stripping Times

Formwork shall not be removed until concrete attains sufficient strength. The minimum stripping times are as

 Cool weather-stripping times shall be interpolated between normal and cold weather durations.

 Forms shall be removed carefully to avoid shock or damage to concrete.

C. Batching & Mixing

C.1 Batching
 Weight batching (as per specification) with ±2% accuracy for cement, aggregates, and water.
 Volume batching (as per specification) with bulking correction for sand.
C.2 Mixing

C.2.1 Machine Mixing (IS:1791-1985)

 Mixing time: 90 sec to 5 min (after all materials added).


 Temperature control:
o Min: 3°C (with precautions).
o Max: 30°C (cool materials if needed).

C.2.2 Hand Mixing

 Max batch size: 0.25 m³.


 Procedure:
1. Spread coarse aggregate on a watertight platform.
2. Layer fine aggregate on top (total depth ≤ 300 mm).
3. Spread cement, mix dry 2 times.
4. Add water, mix 3 times.

D. Transportation & Placing

D.1 Transportation
 Time limit: 20 min from mixing to placement.
 Methods:
o Chutes (slope to prevent segregation).
o Pumps/Wheelbarrows (avoid segregation).
D.2 Placing
 Formwork inspection: Clean, wet, and free of debris.
 Layer thickness: ≤150 mm (compacted before next layer).
 Free-fall height: ≤1.2 m (use tremie for deep pours).
 Construction joints: Roughened, cleaned, and wetted before new concrete.

E. Compaction & Finishing

E.1 Compaction
 Immersion vibrators (IS:2505-1992):
o Spacing: 150–225 mm.
o Duration: 5–15 sec per insertion.
 Avoid: Over-vibration (causes segregation).
E.2 Finishing
 Surface leveling: Screeding, floating, and troweling.
 Curing starts immediately after finishing.

F. Curing & Protection

F.1 Curing Methods


 Water curing (7 days min): Wet hessian, ponding, or sprinkling.
 Membrane curing (if approved): Applied within 1 hour of finishing.
F.2 Protection
 From frost/sun: Covered with insulating mats.
 From traffic: No loading for 3 days.
 Installation of Water Stop.

G. Quality Tests

 Slump test (every batch).


 Compressive strength (3 cubes at 7 & 28 days).

4.3.4 Masonry Work

A. First-Class Brick Masonry (1:6 Cement Mortar):

 Chimney-made bricks soaked before laying.


 Verticality checked with plumb bob.

B. Half-Brick Masonry (1:4 Mortar):

 Scaffolding provided for heights above 1.8m.

4.4 FINISHING WORKS

4.4.1 Plastering Work

 12.5mm plaster (1:6) on walls (rougher mix for walls).


 12.5mm plaster (1:4 or 1:3) on concrete surfaces (stronger mix for durability).
o 20mm cement plaster skirting (1:4) on walls.

4.4.2 Screeding & Punning:

 Providing 20mm cement sand screed (1:4) on floors (base layer).


 Providing cement sand punning (1:1) on floors (smoothing layer).

4.4.3 Tiling Work

 Laying mat-finish porcelain tiles with 12mm base plaster (after plastering/skirting is cured)

4.4.4 Painting Work

 Applying waterproof cement paint on walls/ceilings (post-plaster, pre-final finishes).


 Applying exterior weather coat paint (on external surfaces).
 Applying synthetic enamel paint on timber/iron (final decorative coat).
 Applying Anti-Corrosive Painting for Water Tank Interior

4.4.5 Door and Window Installation

 Install Sal Timber Door/Window Chowkhat Frames as per specifications


 Install Solid Core Door Shutters as per design.
 Install Glazed Window Shutters as per contract clauses.

4.5 BOREHOLE AND WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM

A. Rig Setup and Mud Pit Preparation

1. Site Preparation:
o Clear and level the drilling area.
o Construct a mud pit (size as per design) for drilling fluid circulation.
2. Rig Setup:
o Assemble and position the drilling rig.
o Ensure stability using outriggers and anchors.
3. Mud Mixing:
o Prepare bentonite-based drilling fluid.
o Test viscosity and density before drilling.
4. Materials & Equipment: Drilling rig, mud pump, bentonite, water supply, hakers

B. Drilling and Pilot Hole Execution

B.1 Pilot Hole Drilling (0-100m in Medium Formation)


 Use 7 ⅝" to 9 ⅞" standard bit (rotary drilling).
 Maintain drilling fluid circulation to prevent collapse.
 Collect lithological samples every 2m and at formation changes.
B.2 Additional Drilling (100-200m in Medium/Hard Formation)
 Continue drilling with appropriate bit selection based on formation.
 Monitor drilling parameters (RPM, WOB, mud flow).
B.3 Electrical Logging (Resistivity Test)
 Conduct after reaching 150m depth.
 Analyze formation properties for casing design.

C. Reaming and Casing Installation

C.1 First Reaming (0-100m)


 Enlarge pilot hole using 7 ⅝" to 9 ⅞" reamer.
 Ensure hole stability before casing.
C.2 Casing Installation
 Lower 250mm diameter MS casing with 6-12" screen pipes to 150m.
 Centralize pipes using centralizers.
 Fill annular space with pea gravel (4-8mm).
 Cement top 5m with 1:1.5:3 concrete.

 Install 160A Modular LT Panel with AVR bypass.
 Lay 50 [Link] armored cable (4-core) for power supply.
 Install 11kV HT Line with PSC poles, insulators, and transformer (50kVA).

F. Piping and Filtration System

F.1 Pressure Filter & Aeration Tower


 Install 2.8m diameter pressure filter and 1.4m aeration tower.
 Apply epoxy paint (inside) & red oxide (outside).
 Pack with stainless steel pall rings (16x16mm).
F.2 Filter Media Installation
 Layer media as per specs:
o MnO2 coated sand (300mm)
o Filter sand (600mm, 0.2-0.3mm)
o Gravel layers (100mm each: 2-6mm, 6-12mm, etc.)
F.3 DI & HDPE Piping
 Lay and required DI pipes (ISO 2531).
 Install sluice valves, reducers, flanges, and air blowers.

4.6 SANITARY WORKS

 Provide Galvanized Iron (GI) sheet metal strip (25 gauge) used to prevent water leakage in joints or
construction gaps.
 Provide DI/CI Road Surface Valve Box / Enclosure for valves in road/pavement areas.
 Provide PE/HDPE Pipes /Polyethylene pipes for water supply, laid and jointed as per standards.
 Provide Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride pipes for hot/cold water supply.
 Provide GI Valve Key /Tool to operate underground valves.
 Provide Sanitary Fixtures:

o Porcelain washbasins, Orissa pans (P/S traps), stainless steel kitchen sinks.
o CP (Copper) fittings: Concealed valves, shower roses, bib cocks, angle valves.
o Accessories: Soap trays, towel rods, floor traps (PVC), mirrors.
o CPVC Ball Valve: Valve for controlling water flow in CPVC pipelines.

 Gantry Beam /Heavy-duty pipe used for supporting overhead structures.

4.7 ELECTRICAL WORK

The electrical works includes supply, installation, and commissioning of complete electrical wiring and fixtures using
high-quality PVC insulated copper wires in rigid PVC conduits. It covers wiring for light/fan andpower outlet points
along with the installation of LED tube lights, surface LED light, ceiling fans, and exhaust fan. Also included are sets
of switch/socket units, sets of power outlets, and distribution board with breakers, busbars, and lockable enclosure
(brands: ABB, Siemens, Schneider, etc.). Lastly, the work involves laying and connecting 2C 4 [Link] unarmoured
copper power cable from MDB to DB, with necessary accessories and civil works for proper installation. Provide
water Level Indicator to monitor and display the water level inside a tank. All works and installations will be done
with compliance of employer’s requirements and standard specifications.

5. QUALITY MANAGEMENT

 Regularly check materials and workmanship against specifications.


 Document and address any deviations or defects promptly.
 Conduct inspections at key stages (foundation, framing, finishing).
 Obtain necessary permits and certifications.
 Material Testing:
o Cement, aggregates, bricks tested in lab.
o Cables: Conductivity & insulation tests.
o Conduits: Fire resistance & impact tests.
o LED Lights: Lumen output & power factor check.
 QA/QC Checks:
o Conduit routing before plastering.
o Continuity tests before energization.
o Casing alignment, welding quality, pressure testing.
o Water quality and pump performance tests.

 Inspection Regime:
o Concrete: Slump test, Cube Test
o Welding: RT/UT (ASME Section IX)
o Pipe joints: Hydrostatic test
 Third-Party Audits
 Hired Agency: NABIL/ Bureau Veritas (BV)

6. SAFETY MEASURES

 General Safety:
o Use PPE (gloves, helmets, insulated tools).

o Barricade drilling zone.
o Medical: On-site clinic with trainers
o Isolate circuits before working.
o Fire extinguishers near electrical panels.
o Maintain clear access routes and emergency exits.
o Daily inspections by safety officer

 Working at Heights:

7. ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS

 Minimize dust and noise pollution by using appropriate controls.
