spin recovery has to be managed by the following
standard methode:
n) apply opposite rudder (i.e. against. Lhe

rotation ceases
d) centrnli1:1e rudder and allow nircrnfL Lo dive

At high speed there has to be watched the speed
limits, When n. speed of 87 mph is surpassed in-
voluntary the airhrakes should be opened slowly,
Remember: At higher speeds the nirhrnke lever
force is actuating in opening sense.
Rain drops, hoar i'rost and ice wi 11 [Link] [Link]

teristics may result. There fore caution is
advised in such cases during approach, give enough

Cloud flyh1g
The glider has sufficient strnngt.h for cloud flying,
Nevertheless some principal rules Rhould he con-
l'li 'de red:
- 9 -
AS - K 13 Flight Manual
1) Overspeed in cloud flying should be prevented
in any case, There should be the rule to open
the [Link] [Link] o.t speeds of 65 to 75 mph,
120 - 139 Km/h
2) Minimum equipment for cloud flying:
Air speed [Link] wii,11 pitot tube protected
[Link] icing.
Sensitive altimeter
[Link]
Compass
Turn and bnnk (power source in::1ensitive agaimd.
icing).
Chronometer
An artificiel horizon [Link] accelerometer is
recommended.
3) The ATC rules are to be observed.
4) Minimum Equipment:
Airspeed indicator ranging from 30 to 125 mph.
55 - 231 Km/h
Altimeter
Safety belt and shoulder harness.
[Link] cushion if no parachute is carried (min,
thickness 4 inch), 10 cm
[Link] - and [Link] plo. te

5) [Link] Dato.:
The adjusting and washout - angle,s as well llfl
the control surface deflections [Link] shown in
the outli'ue drawing.
At [Link] care should be taken to observe
the tolerances.
By the particular kinematics of t~e control
mechanism the aileron deflection will he in-
fluenced by the elevator. With normal stick
position the ni lerons have to be nor-11111.l.

The controls hnve stops:
Rudder control: Fixed stop nt the lower hinge.
Aileron control: Fixed stop n.t two hnrd wood
pieces down the front seat.
Elevator contro 1: Backward - fixed stop nt the
front edge of the sent, forwnrrl - fixed stop
at the ground [Link].
Airbrnkes:
Backward: Adjustnble stop n.t the horizontal
pushrod, stops [Link] the [Link] bulkhead frame.
Forward: Fixed stop, cross shaft lever stops

G) Weights and Center of Gravity Positions:
After repairs, after installing of ndditionn.l
equipment, after new painting etc, there
should be watched that the empty weight
center of gravity is within the limits, If
necessary balance weights are to be in-
stalled. 279 299

AS - K 13 Fli~ht Manunl
If the empty weight center of gravity is within
the given limits it is verified that the in-
flight center of gravity is correct provided
the glider is properly loaded after the bnlnnce
pl1ite.
The center of [Link] ty has an importnn1. effect
to the gliders handling characteristics. There-
fore one should pay attention to not cxeed the
given limits,
Too much backward position may become dangcro11R:
Stalling and especially the spinning characteri-
stics (flat spin) can be badly influenced. The
elevator become a more eenei ti ve.
Too much forward position may detoriornte the per-
formance and does not allow flying at maximum
lift, (flare out when landing!).
The following [Link]~s of flight position of, e.g.
are te s t e d :
a) max. forward position:

Also by condensing water considerable quantities
of humidity can enter the interior of the glider.
Strong sun irradiation will affect the finish
by time, therefore the glider should not be ex-
posed to the sun more Lhan neceasary. The treat-
ment of the finish with good waxes and polishing
material will increase the durability and improve
the surface, an important fact for performance.
The advantages of the laminarprofil can only be
achieved by a smooth surface,
Sealing of gaps with adhesive tape will also cause
some gai-n of performnnc e. However at the co ck pit
caution is necessary, when parachute bail out
shall be possible.
Cleaning of the plexiglas canopy only with suitable
cleaners. If not available use pure water. Soft
cloth (gloves cloth), In no cnse rub with hnrrl
cloth dry on plexiglnss,
Lubrication of bearings:
So far as possible, the ball bearings are covered
and therefore need no special maintenance. Only
the bearings at the wing root, where the rigging
connections do not allow a s11itnhle protection,
must be clenned with gnsoline when dirt.,v and
greased [Link].
The control surface bearings are to be dismant-
led and gre•.sed at the annual [Link].
Wheel: Tube pressure 35 psi.
The e.g. hock especiully is exposed to dirt nnd
needs often cleaning nnd citing,
