Course Handbook: Course Guide - Study Method
To make the most of the course, it is important to follow the steps below:
Step 1: Print this study guide, the transcripts and the gap-filling exercises at
the end of each section.
Step 2: Prepare using the transcripts in your handbook.
1. Go to the transcript of Video Lesson 1.
2. Read the 40 phrases & Dialogue 1.
3. If there are words you don’t understand, find them in a dictionary.
4. Put the handbook away.
Note 1: Read only once and quickly! You are just checking that you know the
vocabulary.
Note 2: Do not translate the phrases, only the words that you do not
understand!
Step 3: Practise listening, writing & speaking using video lesson 1.
1. Go to Video Lesson 1.
2. Do the exercises as I explain in the ‘How to work …’ Video:
- Listen to each phrase twice >> write & check.
- Go back to the beginning of the video.
- Click on each number at the bottom of the screen.
- Listen to and repeat each phrase two or three times.
Note 1: You must not read the phrase when you are repeating it! You can
close your eyes when you repeat.
2
Note 2: You know you have assimilated a phrase when you can repeat the
complete phrase with me (shadow me) as soon as you hear the first word.
Step 4: Test your listening comprehension using dialogue 1.
1. Go to Dialogue 1.
2. Listen to the dialogue two or three times until you are sure you can easily hear
and understand every sentence.
Note: Do not look at the dialogue transcript while you listen!
Step 5: Test your assimilation using the gap-filling exercises.
1. Find your printed copy of gap-filling exercise 1.
2. Fill in the gaps from memory.
3. Go back to the transcript of dialogue 1 in your handbook; check and correct
your answers.
4. Listen to the dialogue again.
Note: Do not listen to the dialogue while filling the gaps! You want to test how
well you remember the phrases.
Repeat steps 2 to 5 for each lesson.
I hope you’ll enjoy the course.
Make sure you post any questions that come up for you in the ‘Discussions Forum’.
And when you have completed the course, please remember to rate and review it.
I wish you a lot of success with all your English studies!
