The CREST Awards Officer will be part of the team delivering and developing the Young Peoples Programme at the British Science Association. Current activities in the Young Peoples Programme are the leading award schemes CREST and CREST Investigators and events and activities that promote these awards. The CREST Awards Officer will be involved in supporting the operation and promotion of the awards particularly in relation to the expansion project in England (funded by the Department for Education) and will also provide some support for external and internal meetings and the CREST Local Coordinator network. The overall goal of the CREST expansion project is to increase the quality and quantity of engagement with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) among students in maintained schools using the CREST framework, maintaining the high levels of participation by girls, and extending CRESTs reach among schools in disadvantaged areas. There will also be opportunities for the post holder to become involved in specific project work on an ad-hoc basis. The post reports to the CREST Project Manager. Key responsibilities Support the CREST Local Coordinators, including tracking coordinator progress on the expansion project objectives, developing new support materials when required and overseeing any potential incentive payments in relation to DfE developments.

In partnership with colleagues, organise and deliver events & training for CREST Local Coordinators and other stakeholders on expansion related themes. Maintain relationships with selected CREST Award accreditation partners. Assist with new partnership developments for the expansion project. Contribute to the compilation and dissemination of project reports and impact reports including consideration for performance against targets. Assist with the production of materials/resources produced for schools as part of new product developments. Maintain high quality relationships with stakeholders. Support the activities of other team members and prioritise tasks effectively, in order to be able to meet peaks in demand. Work closely and cooperatively with others in the team and elsewhere in the organisation and actively participate in the work of the British Science Associations Young Peoples Programme. Other tasks as required by the CREST Project Manager/Young Peoples Programme Manager.
Key working relationships The post holder will be expected to liaise with colleagues across the organisation, but is likely to develop significant working relationships with the following people: CREST Local Coordinators Relevant sub-contractors Person specification Essential The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate: A self starter approach, able to work on their own initiative. At least 6 months experience in a role which requires administrative and organisational skills. Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to see the bigger picture. Good written and oral communication skills, including an excellent telephone manner and good presentation skills. The ability to work with Microsoft Office in particular use of Excel, Word to prepare letters, draft documents and design simple layouts and Outlook for email communication and diary management. A flexible and adaptable approach to changing circumstances. In particular, the successful candidate will show evidence of a diplomatic and calm approach with the ability to find solutions to problems. The ability to juggle conflicting priorities and remain calm under pressure. An ability to provide practical help at events.
Desirable In addition, it is preferable although not essential that the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate: A working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, and graphic design packages such as QuarkXpress and Adobe Photoshop Previous experience of working in Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths education Previous experience of working in a customer service based environment

The ability to research ideas and to source contacts & material resources Evidence of an interest in science An interest in working with young people Child Protection Policy As the role of the CREST Awards Officer can involve contact with children and vulnerable adults, the position is subject to receipt of an acceptable police disclosure at Standard Level as administered through the Criminal Records Bureau. Criminal records will only be taken into account when the conviction is relevant. Having an unspent conviction will not necessarily bar you from employment as the CREST Awards Officer.
