Answer any three of the following in 5-6 sentences each:
1) The astronaut training is quite rigorous. Astronaut training includes 04
working on shuttle simulators. This involves getting to know the
instrument panels and error situations if problem occurs. Candidates
work with mock up shuttles, Motion-base simulators, T-38 jets and
parasail. During the training, trainees are taught how to perform tasks
in Zero gravity.
2) According to Gardiner, there is a beauty of sunrise and a beauty of 04
sunset. And of the two the beauty of sunset is deeper and more
spiritual. There are some faces that seem to grow in loveliness as the
snow fall around them, and the acid of time bites the gracious line
deeper. The dimple turns into crease and in that crease is the epic of a

1. B) 3) Gandhiji was against modern machinery because it displaces labour 04
and leaves it idle. He agreed that machinery has its place and it has
come to stay, but he also believed that machine should not be allowed
to displace human labour. The present machinery tends to concentrate
more on wealth in the hands of the few and millions of men and
women‟s bread is snatched out of their mouths. This made Gandhiji
go against the modern machinery.
4) Smog causes human illness, and can also affect the sustainability of 04
crops. Smog seeps through the protective layer on the leaves and
destroys essential cell membranes. This results in smaller yields and
weaker crops as the plants are forced to focus on internal repair and do
not thrive (grow).
2. A) Answer any one of the following in 150 words. 08
1) Kiran Bedi, as we all know, is the first woman to enter the Indian 08
police service. Her preference was always for crime control, crime
prevention, and the general law-and- order tasks of district policing
which are quite important for the common people.
When she was posted to the West District, she implemented a
plan to handle high volume of criminal activity. Here the villages were
patrolled by teams of six civilians led by an armed policeman.
Kiran Bedi made herself available to any citizen who wanted to
speak with her. This personal “open door” policy filtered down
through the system. Police corruption and drunkenness decreased, and
senior officers soon started to make themselves available to citizens as
well. She also implemented a “beat box” system, in which a complaint
box was installed and a constable was appointed in each ward. This
way, anyone could reach the police authorities at any time.
She also brought about many reforms in Delhi‟s notorious Tihar
jail and made it her model prison. She established „Petition boxes‟ so
that the prisoners could write to her directly and receive a personal
written reply from her. She provided the prisoners with meditation
courses and also vocational training that would help them earn a living
after imprisonment. She personally visited and talked with prisoners,
evaluated overall management and inspected food quality.
In 1994, she created the India vision Foundation a registered
non-governmental organization designed to carry out projects in the
fields of prison reform, drug abuse prevention, empowerment of
women, assistance to mentally disabled, and sports promotion.
Thus she has helped the society on a large scale by being a
dedicated and successful officer.

2 A) 2) Shaw had never spoken in public before he attended the Zetetical 08
meeting. He was unaware about the public meetings or their order. He
was an arrant coward, nervous and self-conscious to a heart breaking
degree. He spoke something in the debate and made a fool of himself.
This proved to be an important turn in G.B. Shaw‟s life. He decided to
join the society, attend the meetings and debates regularly and become
a speaker or perish in the attempt. G.B. Shaw was full of knowledge
related to different subjects. He continued speaking in the streets, in
the parks, at demonstrations, anywhere and everywhere possible.
Gradually he started extemporizing speeches. Socialism was the
subject on which Shaw sermonized for at least three times a fortnight.
To be a good speaker, he practiced a lot and cured his
nervousness. He took lessons in Phonetics and elocution and practiced
each and every alphabet. Over a period of time, he became a
renowned public speaker.
3) Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam‟s vision is to see India as a developed nation 08
by the year 2020. To make India developed we should explore the
areas like five year plans, core competence i.e. information technology
etc. Our core competencies can create Indian MNCs and aim at the
target of 150 billion dollars by 2010. Biotechnology is another core
competence. As India is rich in herbs, it should not export raw
materials; instead India can add its own technology for conversion of
such resources to value-added products for use in domestic
requirement as well as for export of the global herbal product market
of 61 billion dollars. To realize a feel of developed India by 2020, five
key areas have been identified for an integrated action:
1. Agriculture and food processing
2. Education and healthcare
3. Infrastructure development
4. Information and communications technology.
5. Critical technologies and strategic industries.
These five areas are closely inter-related and will lead to national,
food and economic security. Also a model of PURA of establishing a
circular connectivity of rural village complexes will accelerate rural
development process by empowerment. Dr. Kalam also insists that
young population should join politics, because quality leaders are like
magnets that will attract the best persons to build a team. In the end,
the government has to build a name for itself, by quick decision-
making and transparent administration.

As the saying goes, that if you have the entire world‟s wealth. Wealth comes
to a person through hard work and perseverance, and one can work hard only
if / she is healthy. To remain healthy one should exercise regularly, eat
healthy food, think positive and laugh. This will lead to happiness in
yourself and your surroundings. If one is positive and happy one can put in

It was a pleasant Sunday morning and we all decided to take a break from
the daily hustle bustle .We all drove to a famous river near the country. It
was so soothing to see the flowing river water. We all decided to take a walk
by the riverside and when we were walking we realized the serenity of the
surrounding and were really blessed that at least there is one place near the
countryside which is pollution free. As it was getting late we drove back but
the experience was overwhelming.
