CITY CENTRE WEEKLY UPDATE
Castlefield & Southern Gateway
This week PC Keith Thompson, PCSO Nicky Moffitt have participated in Operation CARSWELL which is the City Centre begging operation. During the operation Dylan Lee Stratton was arrested & charged with 3 breaches of his ASBO and was sentenced to 8 weeks imprisonment. This is a great result for the team and a clear message to our offenders. PCSO Mike Long & Ben Hannan have been busy over the week around the St John Street area conducting High visibility patrols and offering crime prevention after last weeks rise in burglaries at business premises. With this and the arrest of an offender for 2 burglaries there has been no business or residential burglaries over the last week. PC Rick Grace & PCSOs Mark Pickford & Phil Brown have been busy this week with planning the Day of Action in China nd Town on the 2 April 2012. The day is going to include rough Sleeping & begging sweeps, crime prevention such as bike marking and much more.
China Town
Some good work this week by our own PCSO Mark Pickford who identified and stopped a man in the China Town area on Sunday afternoon. The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of Indecent Exposure last month. The investigation continues. Great result. Finally there was a Tidy up China Town Day which took place th on Saturday 24 March with volunteers giving the area a bit of a Spring Clean.

Its been a busy week for the Piccadilly team who continue to develop long term strategies to deal with anti social behaviour problems in the area. The team are continuing to target individuals and introduce new initiatives. One of these new initiatives involves working closely with the gambling commission, licensing unit and in particular the businesses who have suffered in the past from individuals who have previously committed anti-social behaviour. The team have also started the ball rolling in relation to obtaining another ASBO against a Piccadilly regular. The intelligence gathering on drug dealing in Piccadilly is growing greatly because of information they receive from you. Thanks for this! Next week PC Prakash Patel & PCSO Emma Jones will be at the Grand Apartments on Tuesday 27th March 6 8pm, and on Wednesday 28th March at 4:30pm theyll be at Costa Coffee. This will be for residents in Piccadilly but we are always happy to see our neighbourhood friends anytime!

Commercial District
The commercial team this week have been busy planning and carrying out joint operations with our colleagues from the Piccadilly Team. Both teams have been working together along with our council colleagues to tackle the ongoing issue of beggars, rough sleepers and pedlars. These operations will continue and be more prevalent as we come into the summer months. A good result for the team this week after our friends over at Spinningfields management have offered their support, in dealing with the ongoing skateboarding issue close to the civil justice court. This should significantly reduce incidents and be a positive step forward for residents. Thank-you Spinningfields. Finally why not pop down to Costa Coffee on Market Street on 5 April 2012 between 12 2pm and have a chat with the local officers, its always good to put a face to the name.

The Village
Its been a busy week for the village team. Last Friday saw the launch of the Village Angels which is an initiative ran by the folks from the LGF. They provide volunteers to work on Friday and Saturday Nights looking out for vulnerable people, including those who are alone or drunk to ensure that they are safe whilst out in the area. Village officers and the Angels will be working closely together over the coming weekends, you will be able to spot these volunteers by the Pink tabards. Monday saw another Coffee with Cops at India House with a great turn out from residents, thanks to those who popped along. More dates and locations will be posted soon. Also this week the team ran a car crime initiative at Atwood Street NCP, where crime prevention advice and literature was handed out to drivers, which was a success. Northern Quarter
The NQ team have continued to act on the information received from Residents and businesses regarding street drinking around the Oak Street area. The officers have been patrolling on foot & on pedal cycles gathering intelligence from the individuals and disposing of their alcohol, people who fail to take our advice will be subject to further action lead by the team. On the 27 March between 1 7pm the NQ officers will be at GoOutdoors where they will be doing bike marking, mobile phone registration and much more. Also at the event will be a fitness instructor from Pure Gym carrying out fitness tests and M&S who will be giving out vouchers to people who come down on the day. Its a great chance to meet the team and its all FREE.
