DIGITAL ECONOMY IN INDIA
In the age of digital economy, it has become necessary for every country in the world
to adopt it seriously as it has become the need of the hour. But at the same time, it is
also a challenge. In the society that surrounds us, people, communities, governments,
and even businesses are using digital technology to make decisions, produce goods,
and deliver services. The digital economy refers to both digital access to goods and
services and the use of digital technology to support businesses.
The digital economy is a term that is often used to capture these activities, but it is
difficult to define. In today's world, where information and communication
technologies are advancing at an incredible rate, digitalization in all aspects of life is
one of the most fundamental changes we have ever witnessed. The Digital India
program was launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 1, 2015, to
connect rural areas with high-speed Internet networks and improve digital literacy.
The vision of this program is to transform India into a digital society and a
knowledge-based economy. It is one of the biggest steps taken by the Indian
government to engage the citizens of the country and connect the Indian economy
with the knowledge-based world. What can be observed in India is that the Indian
digital economy is not a conventionally marketed economic activity, and GDP figures
do not consider the economic benefits of the digital economy, such as time savings,
greater choice, and lower product costs. Technology is revolutionizing the economy
and transforming virtually all aspects of business and society. Undoubtedly, the digital
economy is the new productivity platform that some experts call the third industrial
revolution. The digital revolution, also referred to as the Internet economy or Internet
of Everything, is expected to open new market growth opportunities.
Currently, there are a few social and economic activities that can be grouped under the
term digital economy and are enabled by information and communication
technologies. These include banking, buying, and selling, and access to education and
entertainment via the Internet and connected devices. The digital economy is not
separate from business. It impacts all industries and types of business and affects the
way we interact with each other daily.
It is an accepted fact that the term "digital economy" is often used to capture this
activity, but the digital economy in India is not a conventionally marketed economic
activity, and GDP figures do not consider the economic benefits of the digital
economy, such as time savings, greater choice, and lower cost of products.
Technology will revolutionize, or is already revolutionizing, the economy,
transforming virtually all aspects of business and society.
The digital economy is the new productivity platform that some experts call the third
industrial revolution. The term "everything" refers to a range of economic and social
activities enabled by information and communications technologies. This includes
activities such as banking, buying, and selling, and access to education and
entertainment via the Internet and connected devices. The digital economy cannot be
separated from the concept of business. It impacts all industries and the way we
interact with each other daily. It is also recognized that economic structures are
changing as sectors become data-driven, industry boundaries blur, and the basis of
competition changes.
DIGITAL INDIA
'Digital India' is a highly innovative programme that makes Indians ready for a
knowledge-based future Visions Areas of Digital India. The 'Digital India'
programme focuses on three key areas targeted by the government.
Digital infrastructure as a tool for every citizen
The main idea behind digital infrastructure as a benefit to every citizen is to facilitate
the Indian economy with high internet speed as a core benefit for providing services to
citizens. Providing cell phones and bank accounts that enable citizens to participate in
the digital and financial space is at the core. Sharing private storage space in a public
cloud for every citizen is also one of the main concerns of this programme.
Governance and facilities on demand
It goes without saying that seamless integration across departments or jurisdictions,
ensuring the availability of services in real time across online and mobile platforms is
the main idea of this concept. In addition, all services are to be digitally transmitted to
facilitate business. Information systems (GIS) for decision support systems and
development is the motto behind this programme.
Digital empowerment of citizens
One of the most important aspects of this concept is the empowerment of citizens
through the provision of general digital skills and the provision of universally
accessible digital services.
