Insights from the Gospel of John
Insights from the Gospel of John
Chapter 1:
All things were made by God, and anything created cannot be
created without God.
John was a man sent from God whose goal was to testify about
Jesus so he can prove that Jesus is real and can get people to
believe in Jesus since nobody believed in Jesus at the time
Even though Jesus was rejected by everyone all people who do
believe in Jesus have the right to become children of God.
John says that Jesus is more powerful even though Jesus is
younger than john but since Jesus is the holy spirt, he has been
alive since the beginning of time.
Grace comes from Jesus even though there was already grace in
the world before Jesus, but Jesus’s grace is way more stronger
than normal grace
No living species has ever seen God before except for Jesus
Christ because he is the holy spirt and has the closest
relationship than anybody in the world.
John respected Jesus by saying he is not the Messiah or Elijah
but that he is the voice of one calling in the wilderness.
John baptizes with water, but the lord stands among everyone
and is more powerful than anyone.
John saw Jesus walking toward him the next day and said this is
the lamb of god who takes away the sins of the world and the
one who is more powerful then everyone
John says that he had not known that Jesus was the Messiah
until one day he had a vison of the holy spirit coming down
from the heavens like a dove and remained with Jesus which
was how he knew Jesus was the Messiah and the chosen one
The next day John was with two of his disciples and saw Jesus
passing by them and they asked Jesus where he was saying and
Jesus said he would take them, so john and his two disciples
spent the day with Jesus.
Andrew was the name of one of the disciples who followed
Jesus to where he was staying, and the first thing Andrew did
was tell his brother Simon that they had found Jesus Andrew
brought Simon to Jesus and Jesus said that Simons new name is
Cephas (which when translated means peter)
Jesus takes a man named Phillip with him to Galilee and so
Phillip tells a man named Nathanael that he was with Jesus but
Nathanael didn’t believe him because he says nothing good
comes from the town of Nazareth so Phillip tells Nathanael that
he can come meet Jesus for himself and he does and Jesus tells
Nathanael that he saw him sitting underneath a fig tree without
ever knowing about him so Nathanael believes that he is
actually Jesus, and then he tells him that he will witness greater
things happen like seeing the heavens open and watching the
angels ascend and descend on the son of man .
Chapter 2:
Jesus, his mother Mary and his disciples all went to a wedding.
And at the wedding they had ran out of wine so Mary told Jesus
to make more but he knew it wasn’t a good idea because he
knows when the time is right to perform one of his miracles but
Jesus told the servants to get the six stone water jugs and to fill
them with water so they did and the water turned to wine
without him doing anything so Jesus told the servants to bring
the wine to the master of the banquet and so they did and the
master of the banquet said that the wine tastes better than the
wine he had brought and that was one of the first signs that
Jesus was real and his disciples started believing in him because
water turned to wine without him doing anything.
Jesus went to Jerusalem, and it was time for the Jewish
Passover and Jesus saw people in the temples selling cattle,
sheep and doves so he made a whip out of cords and started
drawing people away and flipped the tables and spilt the money
on the floor because he was mad that all those people were
turning his fathers house into a market. So the jews asked Jesus
for a sign that he had the authority to do that and he said
destroy these temples and he will raise them again in 3 days but
the jews thought he was crazy because it took them 46 years to
build the temples but he didn’t actually mean the temples he
was talking about himself and how it took 3 days for him to
raise from the dead and that was another sign to everyone that
Jesus is real. But Jesus knew the hearts of all people and didn’t
need to be told who not to trust his trust and faith was put into
God.
Chapter 3:
There was a man named Nicodemus and he started praising
Jesus saying that he believes him because nobody could
perform his miracles if they weren’t Gods son and Jesus said
that nobody can see the kingdom of god unless they are reborn
again but Nicodemus was confused how you can be reborn if
you are old because you can’t reenter your mother’s womb but
Jesus told him that you can’t enter gods kingdom unless you are
reborn with water and the spirit, and that flesh gives birth to
flesh and spirit gives birth to spirit but Nicodemus is still
confused how you can just be reborn again and Jesus says that
you just have to have faith in him and believe his word. 16 (For
God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16) and that god didn’t send his son into the world to
condemn the world but to save the world through him and that
whoever believes in him won’t be condemned but whoever
doesn’t believe in him has already been condemned. And
people love the dark instead of the light because their deeds
are evil. Everyone who’s in the dark is scared of the light
because they’re afraid their evil deeds will be revealed but
whoever lives by the truth comes into the light to prove that
what they do are in the eyes of God.
Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside
where they spent some time there and Jesus baptized people
and john was also baptizing people nearby at Aenon because
there was plenty of water, Johns disciples got into an argument
with a Jew about a ceremonial washing saying that Jesus is
baptizing too and everyone is coming to him so john said that
he is not the messiah but the one sent ahead of him and that
he must become less than Jesus and Jesus must become more
than john and that the one who comes from above is above all
but the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and
speaks as one from the earth and the one who comes from
heaven is above all Jesus testifies about what he has seen and
hear but nobody believes him but whoever accepts Jesus
believes in Gods truth because Jesus speaks god’s word. God
gives the spirit without limits God loves Jesus and has placed
everything in his hands to get people to believe in him, whoever
believes in Jesus has eternal life, but whoever rejects Jesus will
not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.
Chapter 4:
Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that he was
baptizing more people than john even though Jesus was not the
one baptizing and that it was actually his disciples doing the
baptizing, so he left Judah and went back to Galilee. Jesus
stopped in a town called Sychar near a plot of land Jacob had
given to his son. Jacobs well was there and Jesus had sat down
by the well. When a Samaritan woman had come to get water
from the well Jesus asked her to give him water and she said
you are a jew and I am a Samaritan how could you ask me for a
drink (Jews and Samaritans do not associate with each other) so
Jesus said if you knew gods gift and who it is asking for water
you would’ve asked for water and he would’ve given you living
water. The woman said you have nothing to draw with to get
water from the well and asked where he would get the living
water he was talking about and asked if he was greater than
their father Jacob who had given them the well. Jesus said
whoever drinks from this well will go thirsty again but whoever
drinks the water he gives with never be thirsty again and that
the water he will give them will be spring water which will lead
to the eternal life, so the woman said give me the water so I
wont get thirsty and won’t have to come back to the well. Jesus
said go call you husband and she said that she doesn’t have a
husband, so Jesus said your right you don’t have a husband you
have had five husbands and that the man she was with right
now is not her husband. The woman said I see that you are a
prophet and that their ancestors used to worship on mountains,
but Jews claim the place there supposed to worship at
Jerusalem. Jesus said a time will come where shell worship the
Father neither on a mountain or in Jerusalem and that
Samaritans worship over what they do not know but Jews
warship over what they do know, and that the time is know
where the true worshippers will warship the Father in the truth
and spirit because they are worshippers the Father seeks. The
woman said I know the Messiah is coming and when he does,
he will explain everything to us, Jesus said I am the Messiah.
Jesus’s disciples had returned and were surprised he was talking
to a woman but didn’t question it. The woman went back to the
town and told everyone to come see a man who told her
everything about her even though he had never met her and
that he might be the Messiah. Jesus’s disciples told him to eat
something, and Jesus said I have food you know nothing about
his disciples were confused and said could someone have
brought him food, but Jesus said my food is to do the will of god
who sent him to finish his work. Jesus told them to open their
eyes and look at the fields and said that all of them are ready
for harvesting and that the one who already does the
harvesting is receiving wages and fruit for eternal life and that
others have harvested, and they just do nothing and eat the
food. Many Samaritans started to believe in Jesus because of
what the woman said, and the Samaritans came to Jesus and
asked him to stay with them and he stayed two days, more
people became believers in him because of his word they told
the woman they no longer believe in him because of what she
said but because they had heard his word themselves.
After the two days with them he went on to galilee the
Galileans welcomed him. They had seen what he did at the
Passover event because they were there too. He visited Cana
again where he turned water into wine once more. There was a
royal official whose son was sick at Capernaum when the man
heard that Jesus was in his town he went to him and begged
him to heal his son who was close to death Jesus said unless
you see my signs and wonders you will never believe and the
man said come before my son dies and Jesus said go, your son
will live. And the man believed in his word and left, as he was
leaving, he was told by his servants that his son was living and
that yesterday at one in the afternoon his son had a fever and
then he randomly just left him, and the man realized that that
was the exact time he had been talking to Jesus. This all was
more signs that Jesus is real and that his word is the truth.
Chapter 5:
Jesus went to Jerusalem for a Jewish festival. In Jerusalem there
is a pool, lots of disabled people were at the pool where they
laid there hopeless. One of the men there had been disabled
for thirty-eight years, Jesus talked to him and learned about his
condition and asked the man if he wanted to get well the man
said I have no one to help me into the pool and whenever I
want to go into the pool someone else goes ahead of me Jesus
said get up Pick up your mat and walk and the man was cured.
The day this happened on was the sabbath, so the Jewish
leader said to the man it’s the sabbath and that the law forbids
you to carry your mat they asked him who the man was that
told him to get up and walk with his mat, but he said that he did
not know. Later Jesus had found him in the temple and told him
who he was and said see you are well, stop sinning before
something worse happens to you, after that the man went away
and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who made him
well.
Because Jesus was doing this on the sabbath the Jews began to
persecute him Jesus said my father is always at work even on
this day and that he is too working and because he said this
they all tried to kill him even more because he was not only
breaking the sabbath but he was also calling God his own father
making himself equal with god. Jesus said that he can not do
anything without God and that he only does what he sees his
father doing because whatever God does Jesus does too god
raises people from the dead and gives them life and so can
himself also the father does not judge anyone and has left that
to his son to do. Whoever does not honor the son does not
honor God, and that whoever believes in his word will have
eternal life. The time has come where the dead will hear Jesus’s
voice and that those who hear will go to Gods kingdom. Those
who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who
have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.
Jesus says that if he testifies about himself than what he says is
not true and that there is one above him who if testifies about
him that everything he says is true. Also Jesus says that the
Father has testified about him and that they have never heard
the Fathers voice or seen him because they refuse to believe
the scripture that testifies about him and yet they still refuse to
come to him to have eternal life, he says I do not accept human
glory but I know you, and I know you do not have the love of
god in your hearts and how do they believe in the glory that
comes from one another but not from the one and only God.
“But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your
accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. If you believed
Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since
you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe
what I say?” (John 5:45-47)
Chapter 6:
Jesus crossed the sea of galilee and a massive crowed of people
followed him because they saw the signs that he was real when
he cured the sick little boy. It was almost time for the Jewish
Passover and Jesus looked at the crowed of people and asked
his disciple, Phillip “where are we going to buy bread for all
these people to eat?” But Jesus had just been testing him
because he already knew what he was going to do he just
wanted to see what Phillip would say, and Phillip said that it
would take more than half a year’s money to buy bread for all
the people to eat. Another of his disciples, Andrew, who is
Simon Peter’s brother said here is a little boy with 5 small barley
loaves and two small fish, but how can this feed all these
people? Jesus told his disciples to tell the people to sit down
because there was plenty of grass and the disciples did as told,
There was 5000 men there, Jesus then took the loaves and
separated it between everyone and had them take as much as
they wanted and did the same with the fish. After they were all
done eating, he told his disciples to go and collect all the food
that had not been eaten and to not let anything be wasted after
they had collected all the food, they had filled 12 baskets full of
bread even though there were only 5 loaves of small barley
bread and over 5000 people there. After the people saw the
signs of Jesus filling 12 baskets of bread after giving out 5 loaves
of bread, they began saying surely this is the prophet who is to
come into this world, Jesus knowing that they intended to make
him king decided to leave by himself to a mountain.
It was evening and his disciples went down to the lake, they got
into a boat to cross the lake to Capernaum, it was dark and
Jesus had not joined them on the boat, after they had rowed
about 3 to 4 miles they saw Jesus walking on water so they
were scared because you can’t walk on water, then Jesus said
“It is I don’t be afraid”. Now they were willing to take Jesus on
the boat and immediately the boat had reached the shore of
Capernaum. The next day the people on the opposite side of
the lake had remembered that there was only one boat, and
that Jesus had never gotten into the boat. Then some boats
from Tiberias landed near where they had Aten the bread and
fish, and they saw that neither Jesus or his disciples were in
those boats, so they got on the boats and went to Capernaum
to look for Jesus.
When they had gotten to the other side of the lake, they saw
Jesus and asked him when he had gotten there because he
didn’t go onto the boat at first. Jesus said you are looking for
me but not because you saw the signs but because you ate the
bread, “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that
endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For
on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval”. (John
6:27) So they asked him what they must to meet God’s
requirements, Jesus said that the God’s only requirement is to
believe in the one that he has sent (Jesus) Then they asked him
what signs he was going to perform so they could believe in him
“Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness as it is written
He gave them bread from heaven to eat” (John 6:31) Jesus said
it is not Moses who had given you the bread from heaven, but it
is my Father who sent the true bread because the bread that
God sends down is the bread of life.
Then they said Sir please always give us this bread, Then Jesus
said I am the bread of life whoever comes to me will never be
hungry and will never be thirsty and that you have seen me and
you still do not believe in me and that all that god gives me will
come to me and that whoever comes to me I will Never drive
away. "For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but
to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him
who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me,
but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that
everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have
eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. (John 6:38-
40)
The Jews were annoyed because he said that he is the bread
that comes down from heaven and they said is this not Jesus
the son of joseph whose father and mother we know they don’t
understand what he means by he came down from heaven
because they do not believe that he was sent from God. So,
Jesus told them to stop grumbling and that no one can come to
him unless the Father who send him draws them to me and that
I will raise them up on that last day. Everyone who had heard
the word of God has come to me but nobody has seen God on
Earth except for himself he also said I am the bread of life and
that your ancestors ate the manna in the wild but they died
because they did not eat the bread that came from heaven
which anyone may eat and not die because he is the living
bread that came from heaven and that whoever eats the bread
will live forever and that the bread is his flesh which he will give
for the life of the world (he does not mean that you have to eat
him to have eternal life he means you have to believe in him to
have that eternal life “his bread”)
Then the jews began to become even more annoyed and said
how can this man give us his flesh to eat, Jesus said unless you
eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood you have no
life and that whoever eats his flesh and drinks his blood has
eternal life (again he does not mean actually eat him and drink
him but to believe in him)
Many of his disciples said this is hard teaching and asked who
can accept it. Jesus asked if what he said has offended them
and asked what if they see the son of man ascend to where he
was before, and that the words he has spoken are full of spirit
and life but somehow there are still disciples who don’t believe.
Jesus knew from the beginning who believes in him and who
would betray him. Now many of his disciples have stopped
following him. Simon peter said “Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and
to know that you are the Holy One of God.” (John 6:68-69) Jesus
said that he has chosen his twelve disciples even though one of
them is a devil (judas the son of Simon Iscariot who later
betrayed him,
Chapter 7:
Jesus went to Galilee but he did not want to go through Judea
because the Jewish leaders were trying to find ways to kill him
when it was almost time for the Jewish festival of tabernacles
Jesus brothers told him to leave Gallie and go to Judea so that
his disciples can see they works he does he also said that no
public figure acts in secret and since he is doing these miracles
he needs to show himself to the world.
Jesus said his time is not here yet and that for you anytime will
do because the world can’t hate you but it hates me because he
testifies that its works are evil and he told his brothers to go to
the festival, but he was not because his time has not come,
Jesus stayed in Galilee.
After his brother left to go to the festival Jesus went too but in
secret. At the festival the Jewish leaders were looking for Jesus
and asked where he was, some people said that Jesus is a good
man, and others said that he deceives people no one would say
anything publicly about him for fear of the leaders.
Halfway through the festival Jesus went to the temple courts to
teach and the Jews were amazed and asked how did this man
get such learning without being taught. Jesus answered, “My
teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.
Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether
my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. 18
Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory”
John (7:16-18) He then said has Moses given you the law yet
not one of you keeps the law and he asked why there were
trying to kill him.
The crowed said to him that he is a demon possessed and
questioned him on who is trying to kill him, Jesus said that he
did one miracle, and they were all amazed. He brought up how
Moses gave them circumcision and that if you circumcise a boy
on the sabbath so that the law of moses may not be broken.
And asked why everyone is so mad at him for healing a man of
the sabbath.
Now some people in Jerusalem started asking isn’t this the man
they are trying to kill, but he is speaking publicly, and they
aren’t saying anything to him and asked if the authorities
actually think he is the messiah? He also said that they know
where Jesus is from and that when the Messiah comes no one
will know he is from. Jesus said yes you know me and know
where I’m from and that he is not there on his own authority
but from the one who sent him and that they do not know the
one who sent him, but he knows him because he is from him
and he sent him. Then they tried to capture Jesus, but no one
even touched him because his hour hasn’t come yet. Many
people in the crowd believed in him and asked if when the
Messiah comes will he perform more signs than Jesus.
The Pharisees heard what the crowds where saying about Jesus
so the chief priest and pharisees sent temple guards to arrest
Jesus. Jesus said that he was only with them for a short time
and that after his is going to the one who sent him and that
they will come and look for him but not find him and that
where he is they can not come. They Jews asked where he plans
on going that they won’t be able to find him they asked if he
was going to live in Greek and start teaching the Greeks.
On the last day of the festival Jesus said let anyone who is
thirsty come to me and drink (whoever believes in him) in
scripture is says that rivers of living water will flow from within
them and this means the spirts who believe in Jesus, the spirit
had not been given since Jesus had not been glorified yet
After the people had heard his word some of the people said
that he is surely the prophet and others said that he is the
Messiah, others asked how he could be the Messiah if he comes
from Galilee? Scripture says that the Messiah comes from
Davids descendants and from Bethlehem the town David lived
in. Everyone in the town were dived because of Jesus, some
wanted to capture him even though no one laid a hand one him
The temple guards went back to the priests, and the Pharisees
asked them why they didn’t bring him with them. The guards
said that one has never spoke the way that he does, the
pharisees said that Jesus had deceived them too and said that
no ruler of pharisees had ever believed in him. Nicodemus who
had gone to Jesus earlier asked, does our law condemn a man
without hearing him to find out what he has been doing, they
said to him are you from galilee too, look into it and you fill find
that a prophet does not come from galilee.
Chapter 8:
They all went home except for Jesus; he went to the mountain
of olives. It was dawn and Jesus went back to the temple courts
to teach, while he was teaching, the teachers of the law and the
pharisees brought a woman there that had committed adultery.
They made her stand Infront of the group people being taught
and they told Jesus that she committed adultery and in the law
of Mosses it says we should stone this woman and asked what
he has to say. But they only asked him as a trap so they could
have a reason for accusing him
Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger. When
asked what he was doing, he stood up and said anyone who has
never sinned before could throw a stone at the woman. He then
continued writing. The older people left first, because they have
sinned in their life, and eventually everyone there left until only
Jesus and the woman were there because Jesus has never
sinned. Jesus asked if anyone had condemned her; she said no
one did. He told her he did not condemn her either and to stop
living a sinful life.
Jesus spoke again to the people and said that he is the light of
the world and the whoever follows him will never walk in the
darkness and will have the light of life. The pharisees then said
that he is appearing as his own witness and so his testimony
isn’t valid. Jesus said that even if he testifies on his own behalf
his testimony is valid because he knows where he came from
and where he is going and that they do not know where he
came from or where he is going. He also said that they judge by
human standards and that he does not pass judgement on
anyone, but if he were to judge his judging would be true
because he is not alone and that he stands with his father who
sent him. He then said that in their Law it says the testimony of
two witnesses is true, but he is one person who testifies for
himself and that his other witness is the father who sent him
They asked him where his father is. Jesus said you do not know
me or my father and said that if they knew him, they would also
know his father too.
Jesus said again that he is going away and that they will look for
him and they will die in their sin and that where he goes, they
cannot come. The Jews thought that he meant he is going to kill
himself and that is why he says where I go you cannot come.
Jesus continued talking and told them that they are from below
and he is from above and that they are of this world and that he
is not, and he said that he told them they will die in their sins if
they refuse to believe in him.
The Jews asked who he is, and Jesus said that he is exactly who
he has been telling them he is from the beginning, Jesus then
said that the one who sent him is trustworthy and that what he
hears from the one who sent him he tells the world. The Jews
did not know he was talking about his father. Jesus then said
that he does not do anything on his own and only speaks about
what his father has taught him and that the one who sent him is
with him and has not left him alone and that he always does
what pleases his father.
Jesus then said to the Jews that believed him, that if you believe
in my teaching, you are really my disciples and that you will
know the truth and the truth will set you free. The Jews said
that they are Abraham’s descendants and have never been
salves so how would they be set free when there’s nothing to
be set free from?
Jesus said that they were right but everyone who sins is a slave
to sin and that a slave has no permanent place in a family, but a
son belongs to a family forever therefore if a son sets you free,
you will be free. Then he said that he knows that they are
Abraham’s descendants, but you are still trying to kill me,
because they have no room in their heart for his word even
though he is telling them what his father has said to him.
The Jews said that Abraham is their father. Jesus said that if
they were actually Abraham’s children then they would do what
Abraham did, but they are trying to kill him instead even though
Abraham has told them that Jesus tells them the truth and he
also said that Abraham never tried to kill him, so they are not
doing the works of Abraham but of there own father.
The Jews then said that they are not illegitimate children and
that the only father they have is God himself. Jesus then said
that if God were their father, then they would love him too
since he has come from God and that he did not come by
himself. Then he said that they belong to their father who is the
devil, and that he tells them the truth and they refuse to
believe in him.
The Jews then asked if they are right by saying that he is a
demon possessed. Jesus then told them that he is not
possessed by a demon and that he honors his father, and they
dishonor him and that he does not seek glory for himself, but
his father is the one who seeks it because he is the judge into
heaven, Jesus then said that whoever believes in his word will
never see death. (he does not actually mean you will not die,
but that you will enter eternal life when you die because you
believed in God and Jesus)
The Jews said that now they know he is a demon because
Abraham died and so did the prophets and asked how he can
say that anyone who believes in him won’t die and asked if they
are greater than Abraham.
Jesus said that if he glorifies himself his glory means nothing
because he does not want the glory and that he wants God to
have all the glory, he just tries to get as many people as possible
to believe in God. He also said that God is the one who glorifies
him he then said that they do not know him, but he knows him
and if he said he did not know God then he would be a liar just
like them. Jesus then said that their Father Abraham was glad at
seeing him rejoiced. The Jews said that he is not 50 years old, so
he has not seen Abraham. He said that they were right and said
that before Abraham was born, he was and so that mad the
Jews angry and they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus
hid and went away to the temple grounds.
Chapter 9:
Jesus found a man who had been blind since birth. Jesus’s
disciples asked him who had sinned to make this man be born
blind. Jesus told them that neither the man nor his parents
sinned but he is blind from birth so he would find God. (“While I
am in the world, I am the light of the world.”) (John 9:5)
After Jesus told them this he spat on the ground and made mud
and put it on the man’s eyes and told him to wash himself in the
pool of Siloam, and once he washed himself, he was no longer
blind. When the man came home his neighbors were saying,
wasn’t he the man that we used to see sitting and begging?
Then the man said that he is the man, but his neighbors asked
how he wasn’t blind anymore so the man told them that a man
named Jesus made mud and told him to put it on his eyes and
wash himself and then he could see. The people brought the
man to the Pharisees and the day that he was cured of his
blindness was also the sabbath, the Pharisees also asked him
how he can see know and he told them the same thing, that
Jesus put mud on his eyes and told him to wash himself. The
Pharisees were divided on Jesus and some said that he is not
from God and others questioned how a sinner could perform
such a sign? The Pharisees asked the man what he has to say
about Jesus and the man said that he is the prophet. The
Pharisees still didn’t believe that the man was actually blind so
they went to the mans parents and asked if he was actually
born blind and his parents said yes that he was born blind and
that they should be asking him because he is grown so he will
speak for himself, but his parents said this because they were
scared of the Jewish leaders because if they find out that you
believe that Jesus is the Messiah you would be put out of the
synagogue. They brought the man out again and told him to
give glory to God by telling them the truth because they think
they know that Jesus is a sinner. The man said that whether
Jesus is a sinner or not he still cured his blindness. They asked
the man again what he had done to him to cure his blindness,
and the man said that he already told them and asked if they
want to become his disciples. The men then started insulting
him and said that they are disciples of Moses and that they
know that God spoke to Moses, and that they don’t even know
where Jesus came from. The man said that they don’t know
where he came from but the man still opened his eyes he also
said that we know god doesn’t listen to sinners but he listens to
godly people who do his will and that nobody has ever cured
someone who had been blind since birth so if Jesus wasn’t a
man sent from God he would have been able to do such a thing.
The men then threw the man out. Jesus had heard what they
did to the man and asked him if he believes in the Son of Man,
the man asked him who the Son of Man is so that he could
believe in him. Jesus told him that the Son of Man is the one
speaking to him. The man said Lord I believe, Jesus said that
Judgment is the reason he has come into the world and so that
blind can see and those who see will become blind. The
Pharisees that were there asked if they were blind too and
Jesus said if you were blind then they wouldn’t be guilty of
there sins but since they claim they can see they guilt will stay
with them.
Chapter 11
Chapter 10:
Jesus said to the Pharisees, that anyone who enters the sheep
pen without using the gate is a thief and a robber, but the one
who enters the sheep pen using the gate is the shepherd of the
sheep, and the gatekeeper opens the gate for him because they
trust him, therefore the sheep listen for the one who enters
using the gate. The one that the sheep listen for the voice of
calls the sheep by there name and they follow because they put
their trust in him, but they would never follow a stranger who
they do not know of, because they would have no trust in the
stranger but instead they would run away because they don’t
recognize the voice of the stranger. Jesus said this all in a figure
of speech, but the Pharisees didn’t understand what they were
being told. Jesus then told them that he is the gate for the
sheep and anyone who has come before him are the thieves
and robbers even though the sheep have not listened to them,
Jesus then said I am the gate and whoever enters through me
will be saved and come in and out and find pasture, however
the thief’s come with the purpose to steal, kill and destroy.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life
for the sheep.” (John 10:11) He then says that the person hired
to take care of the sheep is not the shepherd and does not own
the sheep, and when he sees a wolf coming, he abandons the
sheep and runs away because he only cares about himself and
not the sheep, because he is not a shepherd. Jesus says he is
the good shepherd and knows his sheep and his sheep know
him, and he would sacrifice himself for his sheep because he
cares for them. The Jews who heard what he said were divided
again and some said that he is a demon-possessed and that you
should not listen to him, others said that a man possessed by a
demon wouldn’t be able to talk the way he does and open the
eyes of the blind.
A man named Lazarus was sick and he was from Bethany which
was the village of Mary and her sister Martha, and Mary was
the one who wiped Jesus’s feet with her hair. Mary went to
Jesus and told him that Lazarus was sick, Jesus said that his
sickness will not end in death. Him and his disciples decided to
stay in Bethany for 2 more days, after the 2 days he told his
disciples that they were going back to Judea. Mary and her
sister asked Jesus why he would want to go back to Judea when
the Jews had tried to stone him a few days before. Jesus said
there is twelve hours of daylight so anyone who walks in the
daytime will not stumble but whoever walks at night will
stumble because they have no light. He then told them that
Lazarus had fallen asleep and that he is going to wake him up.
His disciples said to Jesus that if he sleeps, he will get better, but
they did not know that Jesus was talking about Lazarus being
dead. Jesus then told them that Lazarus is dead. Didymus said
to the disciples to go with them so that they can die with him.
When Jesus got to Judea, he found out that Lazarus had been in
his tomb for four days, many if the Jews came to Mary and
Martha to mourn the loss of their brother, Martha heard that
Jesus was there so she went to him and said to him that if he
had been there Lazarus would not have been dead, Jesus told
her that her brother will rise again, Martha said that she knows
he will rise again during the resurrection on the last day. He
then said to her “I am the resurrection and the life. The one
who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever
lives by believing in me will never die. Do you Believe this?”
(John 11:25-26) She said yes, I believe that you are the Messiah
and the son of God. Martha went back to Mary and told her
that Jesus was here and is asking for her, Mary quickly went to
him, Jesus had not entered the village but was still at the place
where he was talking to Martha, the Jews followed her because
they thought he was going to Lazarus’s tomb. Mary said to him
that if he was there Lazarus wouldn’t have died, Jesus asked
where his tomb was so they said to follow them and see, Jesus
was crying and the Jews said that you can see that Jesus loved
him but the other Jews said couldn’t he have kept the man from
dying since he cured the man of his blindness.
