Understanding the Ferranti Effect

The Ferranti Effect describes the occurrence of higher voltage at the receiving end of a long transmission line compared to the sending end under no-load or light-load conditions, primarily due to the line's capacitive charging current. This phenomenon results in a voltage rise along the transmission line. The document also references equations and concepts related to transmission line characteristics, including hyperbolic forms and surge impedance.

Ferranti Effect:

The Ferranti Effect is the phenomenon where the voltage at the receiving end of a long
transmission line is higher than the sending end voltage under no-load or light-load
conditions.
This occurs primarily due to the capacitive charging current of the transmission line, which
causes a voltage rise along the line.
