1. Initial Phase

Assistant professor Sheetal Nagar started by introducing herself and

gave us the introduction of computer department she also explained
the vision of computer department that is to provide value-based
technology education in Computer Engineering. And she added that
mission of computer is to bring out graduates who can solve
challenges of industry and society by applying computing techniques.
To impart human and ethical values among students in the service of
society.
Gujarat Technical University organizes an Induction program with
aims to train engineering graduates well in branch of admission, have
a holistic personality and must have desire to serve society and nation.
It is expected that an engineering graduate work for solving the
problems of society using the modern technologies and practices.
That needs the broad understanding of the society and relationships. It
is needed to cultivate the human values in engineering graduates to
fulfil his responsibilities as an engineer, a citizen and a human being.
Considering the various social backgrounds and whether a
student comes from the urban or rural areas they differ in many
of the life skills and their abilities and thinking. There branch of
admission may be due to rush; their interest in subject is
question. They are facing the issues like hostel and settlements,
pressures from peers and many related issues. To overcome such
issues, it is necessary to create an environment for students so
that they feel comfortable, find their interest and explore their
inner beings, create bonding with other students, establish
relation with teachers, work for excellence, get a broader view
of life and practice human values to build characters. The
Induction Program covers the various activities which enables
them to overcome all such issues and motivates them to perform
well in their chosen branch of admission.

 GOVERNMENT ENGINEERIN COLLEGE GEC Rajkot was

established by Government of Gujarat in the year 2004 with a
vision to provide quality technical education to bring out
technically competent socially responsible, environmentally
conscious and ethically sound engineers in tune with India’s
vision to transform the nation into a developed country. Institute
is located opposite to Kankot Village which is 15-minute drive
from Rajkot City. Rajkot is central location of Saurashtra and
Kutch region
 Vision
 To provide value-based technology education in Computer
Engineering.
 Mission
 To bring out graduates who can solve challenges of
industry and society by applying computing techniques.
 To develop partnership with industries, government
agencies and research and development organizations for
knowledge and resources sharing.
 To encourage faculties and students to participate in
reputed conferences, workshops, seminars and other such
technical activities.
 To motivate students/graduates to be entrepreneurs.
 To impact human and ethical values among students in the
service of society.
2. Universal Human Values

In this session we learnt the concept of harmony. Harmony is a

situation in which people are peaceful and agree with each other, or
when different things seem right or suitable together. Also, we
learned why it is important to be in harmony not only with ourselves
but with family, friends, society, nature, etc.
Harmony in family, society, and human relations is rooted in shared
values and a deep understanding of our interconnectedness. When we
recognize the importance of these values and work towards a
universal harmonious order, we can create a world where every
individual and community coexist peacefully, promoting the well-
being of all.
In the next session of UHV (Universal human values) we learned on
how to be in harmony with self, friends, family, society and nature.
Other than harmony we learned about self-esteem, self-awareness,
how to manage time schedule which was very important for self-
growth. Self-esteem is the overall opinion we have of ourselves. Self-
awareness is the ability to understand oneself, including one's
thoughts, feelings, motivations, and behaviors. It is also the ability to
recognize how one is perceived by others
3. Physical Activity

A healthy and strong body is like an ornament. If we are healthy, we

will be able to learn new things properly, go on excursions or
participate well in events and competitions. Physical exercise is
defined as any movement that makes your muscles work and requires
your body to burn calories. There are many types of physical activity,
including swimming, running, jogging, walking and dancing, etc.
shown to have many health benefits, both physically and mentally. It
may even help you live longer
We played various outdoor games like Nargol, catch-catch,
Kho-Kho, badminton, cricket, etc.

4. Familiarization of Department
[Link] to local area
6. Lecture by eminent people
7. Proficiency Modules

In this session we watched two movies

first movie was ‘life of Pi’. It is a movie
about a man who survives months in
the ocean on a lifeboat with a tiger
named Richard Parker. Through this
movie we learned the importance of
determination, courage, faith,
resourcefulness, etc. but we also
explored how people can survive both
physically and mentally.

The story of the life and academic career of

the pioneer Indian mathematician,
Srinivasa Ramanujan, and his friendship
with his mentor, Professor G.H. Hardy.
Ramanujan was an Indian mathematician.
He had no training in mathematics but still
made contribution in mathematical analysis,
number theory, infinite series, and
continued fractions.
8. Literature

In this session we got to know the difference between the terms

literature and literacy. We also understood the difference
between a literate person and educated person. Literature
means books and writings published on a particular subject.
Literacy means the ability to read and write. Educated person
refers to a person who has attained a level of higher education.

In next session we read a story in English

and converted story in Gujarati. Then we
read a story of ‘Kindhearted pea’ and wrote
a summary on it in our own words. In this
story A pea pod falls from a plant and three
peas wake up. Each pea wishes to go
somewhere different when the wind offers
to take them on a journey. The first pea
wants to go to the sun but gets burned, the second pea wants
to be a queen but gets squished, and the third pea wants to
help people. The wind takes the third pea to a house where a
sick boy needs something to live for. The pea feels a change
and wants to grow to help the boy.
