Reflection – Visualization
Challenge and Selection
I use visualization tools to make people understand about the way I think to reach
agreement with stakeholders and find the right solution to solve a problem. I always
collaborate with larger organizations and other communities to look for ideas that our team
never thought of before. I use this approach with our community members, such as
watching their routines, and interviewing them about our services. Our community, which is
a community in the field of education and education that applies technological innovations
for service delivery to our community members. I have also used visualization techniques of
symbol drawings, shapes and coloring as well as photographs (for illustration) through
whiteboard and presentation of the problem with a series of questions to discuss with
various stakeholder groups identifying the type of problem with elements, limitations,
improvements during evaluation and opportunities to find appropriate solutions.
Application
I started this process by creating a graphic of geometric shapes (circle, square, and triangle)
that came together to illustrate the problem point. To develop this graphic, I took materials
and ideas from our teams to understand each of our community members’ needs. The
materials we got were training materials, evaluation materials from each different team of
the community. If materials are not available, then I will conduct interviews with community
members and some stakeholders to get other materials and inputs.
For this activity, I will divide each team from our community into groups of 3-5 participants
each representing a different area of interest. Each group received input and ideas from
stakeholders. In addition to getting materials for discussion, I also created a team dedicated
to collecting data from surveys of our community members and from other communities.
After that, we discussed to gather concepts from each individual into a generation of ideas
and wrote each opinion on sticky notes. Then I gave three questions to answer, such as: 1)
What do you think about this issue? 2) What elements are missing in this graph? 3) What is
the solution to this problem? I gave them 15 minutes to discuss the questions and mark the
graph. Then I asked each group for their answers and as each group reported, I noted some
commonalities in their insights. I then combined their insights and sought approval from
each stakeholder and after that, I digitized their insights into a poster with a revised graphic
that incorporated their input and suggestions that they agreed upon as a community.

Insight & Approach
What I learned from this exercise with some of the groups was that their feedback graphs
were important in improving my graphs, strengthening team relationships and their
understanding of the problem they were solving. The most valuable aspect of this activity
was sharing their insights and learning to discuss the problem they were solving. The graph
provided a focal point to share opinions from each group and stakeholders and develop
insights into the causes of the problem. They were able to quickly identify the root of the
problem with this graph while collaborating, yes...even though they drew the geometric
shapes simply, it was very effective. We were able to identify the type of problem in the
graph, and discover new insights about the relationship between opinions and choose the
right solution and helped us to identify unknowns and ideas that we never thought of
before.
I followed this path from the "Design Thinking for Innovation" course, I learned a lot about
problem solving using design thinking. I am also a Graphic Designer who is assigned to
create graphics and presentations of activities and evaluations in this community; I use
visualization tools when there is a complex problem.
