maximum starting torque when its rotor resistance ( R2 ¿is equal to its leakage reactance (

of 1.5 Ωper phase. The filed current has been adjusted so that the torque angle δ is 280

ii. What are the magnitude and angle of the armature current in the machine? What is
the motor’s power factor?
iii. If the field current remains constant, what is the absolute maximum power this
motor could supply?

a) A 6-pole, 3phase, 60 Hz induction motor takes 48kW in power at 1140 rpm. The stator
copper loss is 1.4 kW, stator core loss is 1.6 kW, and rotor mechanical losses are 1kW.
Calculate the efficiency of motor.

b) An induction motor when driving a load takes 350kW at 0.707 power factor lagging. An
overexcited synchronous motor is connected in parallel with this induction motor, taking
150 kW in power. If the overall power factor (of the two motors combined) becomes 0.9
lagging, calculate the kVA rating of the synchronous motor.

of the equivalent circuit of a 3-phase, wye-connected induction motor. Results of no-load
and blocked-rotor tests are described as follows.

18.5A, friction and windage loss = 600W
Blocked-rotor test: line-to-line voltage = 45V, input power = 2700W, input current =
