NSTP Reflection

The National Service Training Program (NSTP) has given me a chance to grow not only as
a student but also as a responsible member of society. This semester, we were introduced to
different topics and activities that helped us develop practical skills, social awareness, and a
deeper sense of community service. Every session was filled with real-life lessons that I know
will be useful even after college.

Our first aid training was where we learned how to respond to emergencies. I realized
how important it is to stay calm and act fast during emergencies. The hands-on experience gave
me more confidence to help other. It also made me appreciate healthcare workers even more.
Now I feel better prepared to assist in real-life situations. This training is something I will carry
with me for life.

Another activity that challenged me physically and mentally was the rescue and carry
training. We were taught different techniques on how to safely lift and transport injured
individuals without causing further harm. It wasn’t as easy as it looked, especially when working
with heavier teammates. Still, it taught us the value of teamwork, strength, and strategy. We
also learned how to improvise with available materials, which can be useful during disasters. I
saw how essential these skills are both natural and man-made emergencies. It made me realize
that anyone can be a hero in time of crisis with the right knowledge.

The environmental advocacy with tree planting was one of the most fulfilling parts of
NSTP for me. We went to a reforestation site near the coastal road and planted mangroves
while learning about the effects of deforestation and climate change. I felt proud knowing I
contributed something to help the planet, even if it was just a small step. It reminded me that
protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility.

We also had to talk about public safety with officers the Task Force Davao. They shared
how they keep people safe during disasters and dangerous situations. I learned that their job is
not easy and they really care about protecting everyone. They also taught us how to be careful
and avoid danger in everyday life. I used to think their job was just about rules, but now I see
they do a lot more to keep us safe. It made me feel thankful and more aware of my
surroundings. I will remember to always be alert and help others when I can.

Lastly, we talked about the different neighborhoods here in Davao and how their
situations are looking and we made an activity about what are the cause and effects of it and
brainstormed with our groupmates of solutions to help them. I realized that most of the
neighborhoods experiences poverty and the solutions that were given to them was just
temporary.

As NSTP ends, I can say that I learned a lot of things that go beyond the classroom. I
learned how to help in emergencies, care for the environment, and listen to the needs of other
people. Every activity showed me that even small actions can lead to big changes. I am thankful
for this experience because it made me more aware and more willing to help. I hope to
continue to helping others and doing good things for my community even after this course.
