CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
The demand for conducive study spaces and relaxing environments has been increasing among
students, professionals, and entrepreneurs. Traditional study areas such as libraries often lack
amenities that support both productivity and comfort. In response, hybrid spaces combining
study hubs and coffee shops have gained popularity, offering high-speed internet, study-friendly
environments, and quality refreshments. This study investigates how such spaces contribute to
customer satisfaction and academic performance.
Theoretical Framework
This study is anchored on the Customer Satisfaction Theory, which suggests that perceived
quality, service, and experience directly impact customer retention and loyalty. Additionally, the
Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) Model is applied to understand how the environment of
a study hub influences students' behavior and academic performance.
Conceptual Framework
The conceptual framework of this study identifies key independent variables such as ambiance,
service quality, and study resources, which affect the dependent variables of customer
satisfaction and student performance. The relationships between these variables will be
analyzed quantitatively.
Statement of the Problem
This study seeks to answer the following research questions:
1. What is the level of customer satisfaction in the study hub and coffee shop?
2. How does the study hub environment influence students' academic performance?
Significance of the Study
This study provides valuable insights for business owners, students, and educators. It helps
entrepreneurs enhance customer experience in study hubs, informs students about the
effectiveness of alternative study environments, and aids policymakers in improving learning
spaces.
Scope and Delimitation of the Study
The study focuses on customers and students who frequent study hubs and coffee shops within
Iloilo City. It does not cover other types of commercial establishments or remote learning setups.
Data will be collected within a specific timeframe to maintain accuracy.
Definition of Terms
 Customer Satisfaction – A measure of how well a service meets customers’
expectations.
 Academic Performance – The measurable success of students based on grades and study
efficiency.
 Study Hub – A designated space designed for students and professionals to work and
study efficiently.

CHAPTER 2
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Research on hybrid study environments has shown that environmental factors such as lighting,
noise levels, and seating comfort significantly influence student productivity (Rands &
Gansemer-Topf, 2016). Additionally, customer satisfaction in service industries is heavily
affected by service quality and ambiance (Oldenburg, 1991). Previous studies indicate that
well-designed spaces increase learning engagement and overall satisfaction (Educause, 2022).

CHAPTER 3
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY
Purpose of the Study

This study aims to examine the impact of a study hub and coffee shop on customer satisfaction

and students' academic performance using a quantitative approach. The research will provide

numerical insights into customer preferences and the effectiveness of study hubs.

Research Design

This study employs a quantitative research design, using numerical data and statistical analysis

to assess the effectiveness of study hubs and coffee shops in enhancing customer satisfaction and

student performance. A descriptive and correlational approach is applied to measure

relationships between variables objectively.

Research Objectives

1. To evaluate the level of customer satisfaction in the study hub and coffee shop.

2. To determine the relationship between the study hub environment and students' academic

performance.

Research Questions

1. What is the level of customer satisfaction in the study hub and coffee shop?

2. How does the study hub environment influence students' academic performance?

Data Collection

Data will be collected through a structured survey questionnaire consisting of closed-ended

questions using a Likert scale (e.g., 1 = Strongly Disagree, 5 = Strongly Agree) to measure

customer satisfaction, study habits, and academic performance. The survey will be administered

online and in-person to ensure broad participation.

Data Analysis

The collected data will be coded and analyzed statistically using SPSS software. The

following statistical tools will be applied:

 Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentage) to summarize

data.

 Correlation analysis to determine relationships between variables.

 Regression analysis to identify significant predictors of customer satisfaction and

retention.

 Chi-square tests to measure associations between categorical variables.

Materials and Equipment

 Online survey platform (Google Forms, Microsoft Forms)

 Statistical software (SPSS, Microsoft Excel)

 Printed questionnaires for in-person distribution

Procedure

1. Develop a structured survey questionnaire.

2. Conduct a pilot test to ensure clarity and reliability.

3. Distribute surveys online and in selected locations.

4. Collect and encode responses into SPSS for analysis.

5. Interpret results and draw conclusions.

Respondents of the Study

The target population consists of students, professionals, and customers who have used the study

hub and coffee shop. A minimum sample size will be determined using Slovin’s formula to

ensure statistically significant results.

Data Gathering Instrument

A structured survey questionnaire will be the primary data collection tool. It will contain

demographic questions, Likert scale items, and multiple-choice questions to gather

measurable responses from participants.

Ethical Considerations

The study will adhere to ethical guidelines by ensuring informed consent, confidentiality, and

voluntary participation. No personal identifying information will be collected, and data will

only be used for academic purposes.

This structured quantitative approach ensures the research provides objective and measurable

insights into the impact of study hubs and coffee shops on customer satisfaction and academic

performance.
