OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the program is to promote safety by minimizing workplace hazards within
the J&E construction site as there are many potential hazards like falling objects, heavy
machinery, noise, dust and more. It is also ti ensure compliance with standards like
complying to standards OSHA 2001, and to also create a culture of health and wellbeing
across all construction activities.

SCOPE
The scope of the PPE programme in J&E encompasses identifying workplace hazards
requiring PPE, selecting appropriate equipment that meets relevant standard ensuring proper
fit for all workers, including those with diverse body types and changing needs. Providing
comprehensive training on the correct use, limitations, care and disposal of PPE, establish
procedures for maintenance and replacement of equipment and ensuring compliance with all
applicable regulations and company specific requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Employer/Management:
 Ensure that proper PPE is provided.
 Ensure that employees are trained on the proper and use of PPE.
 Regularly review and update the PPE Program.
 Enforce the use of PPE on the site.
Safety Officer
 Identify hazards and assess risks.
 Select appropriate PPE based on identified hazard.
 Train and educate employees on wearing, adjust, remove, maintenance and the
limitations.
 Ensure every employee is provided with PPE.
 Record keeping and report any defective PPE.
 Ensure that the PPE Program is improved and evaluated.
Supervisors
 Monitor PPE use on the worksite.
 Ensure workers are trained and understand when and where PPE must be used.
 Inspect PPE regularly for wear and tear.
Employees
 Use PPE as required by the company.
 Report any damage or ineffective PPE immediately
 Participate in PPE training and comply with safety protocols

DEFINITIONS
 Eye and Face Protection: Equipment provided to protect workers face and eyes during
exposure to such hazards as flying particles, sparks, liquid chemicals and potential
injuries like radiation light.
 Foot Protection: Equipment designed to provide protection to the feet and toes during
exposure to such hazards as falling or rolling objects, chemicals or liquid exposure,
piercing objects through the sole where employees feet are exposed to sharp objects.
 Hand Protection: Equipment designed to provide protection to the hands during
exposure to potential such as sharp objects, abrasive surfaces, temperature extremes
and poking objects.
 Hazard assessment: The process used to identify hazards in the workplace to select
the appropriate PPE to guard

TYPES OF PPE USED ON J&E CONSTRUCTION COMPANY

These are the types of PPE used on J&E Construction:
 Head protection which are hardhats are required to protect employees from falling
objects, and head injuries.
 Eye and face protection which are safety glasses and face shields are used to protect
employees from flying debris, chemicals and other hazards.
 Hearing protection which are earplugs or earmuffs are used when noise levels
exceed 85 decibels
 Hand protection which are gloves and are used to protect hands from cuts, abrasions,
chemicals and extreme temperatures.
 Foot protection which are safety boots with steel toes and are required to protect feet
from falling objects and sharp materials.
 Respiratory protection which are dust masks or respirators are required for tasks
involving airborne particles or fumes.
  Fall protection which are harnesses, lanyards and lifelines which are used to prevent
falls when working at heights.
PPE SELECTION AND ISSUANCE
 PPE will be selected based on the hazard analysis and the tasks being performed.
 All PPE will meet or exceed OSHA standard and be properly fitted to the employee.
 PPE will be provided at no cost to employees.
 Employees will be trained on how to properly use, maintain and care for their PPE.
TRAINING AND EDUCATION
 Employees will receive training on the following areas:
 Proper use of PPE like instruction on when and how to wear PPE.
 Maintenance and care, where employees will be trained on how to clean, inspect and
store PPE to ensure its effectiveness.

 Hazard recognition whereby employees will learn how to recognize when specific
PPE is required.
 Emergency procedures where employees will be trained in emergency response
procedures, such as how to properly remove PPE in the event of an emergency.
PPE MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION
Employees in J&E are required to inspect their PPE before each use to ensure it is in good
condition. Damaged or defective PPE should be reported to a supervisor for replacement
PPE will be cleaned and maintained according to manufacture recommendations.
Supervisors will conduct periodic inspection of PPE to ensure it is being used properly and
maintained properly.
COMPLIANCE WITH OSHA STANDARS
The construction company will adhere to OSHA standards for PPE including:
 29 CFR 1926.95- General requirements for PPE in construction.
 29 CFR 2926.100- Head protection requirements.
 20 CFR 1926.102- Eye and face protection requirements
 29 CFR 1926.28-Personal protective equipment use.
RECORED KEEPING
 Keep records of all PPE training, inspections and equipment replacements.
 Maintain a list of all PPE issued to employees.
  Document all incidents or near-misses involving PPE to review and improve the
program.
EVALUATION
 Review the risk assessment reports and compare them with the types of PPE provided.
 Identify if any tasks or work environments have changed, requiring new or additional
PPE.
 Conduct feedback sessions with employees to assess comfort, usability and
functionality of the PPE.
 Review any incidents of PPE failure or expose to hazards to determine if the PPE was
suitable.
 Collect feedback from employees regarding the clarity and usefulness of PPE training.

Personal Protective Equipment Policy
The J&E Construction Company requires that all employees use appropriate personal
protective equipment including eye, face, hand, ear, head and fall protection and also
additional PPE requirement as required by particular work function, and complete training in
the proper usage, maintenance and application of protective equipment.
Contractors and sub-contractors performing work on premises must apply for their own
personal protective equipment and are responsible for employee training with PPE.
This policy is to prevent, as far as reasonably practicable, occupational diseases, injuries and
fatalities that may be prevented through the correct use of appropriate protective equipment.
J&E CONSTRUCTION COMPANY’s COMMITMENT
 We commit issue PPE at expenses of the company.
 We commit that PPE remains the property of the company and must be handed back
on termination of waste service. Loss or damaged to PPE may result in disciplinary
action being taken against the employee after investigation.
 We commit to discipline employees who fail to use the PPE correctly.
 We commit to enforce the use of PPE.
 We commit to train all employees who will be issued PPE on how to use it.
 We commit the management to provide adequate PPE to all employees.
 Employees will be responsible for the properly maintaining of PPE issued to them and
it should be clean and in safe condition.
