Lesson Content

Meaning of Web Design

Web design is the process of planning, creating, and updating websites. It includes various
elements such as:
- Information architecture
- Website structure
- User interface and navigation
- Layout, colours, contrasts, fonts
- Use of icons and photography

All of these elements come together to create a functional and visually appealing website.

Understanding a Web Page

A web page is a text file written in HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). It may include links
to other web pages, images, or files, and is stored on a web server.
Web pages can be interactive and often use multimedia (audio, video, animations). When
creating a web page, it is important to have a clear goal and use hyperlinks to connect
different content.

Uses of a Web Design Package

1. Accessibility Checker: Helps ensure code meets accessibility standards and is usable by
people with disabilities.
2. Split View Option: Allows users to write code in one pane and preview the design in
another without switching tabs.
3. Interactive Buttons: Makes it easy to create navigation buttons without needing
advanced image editors like Photoshop.
4. Dynamic Web Template (DWT): Enables the creation of one master template that can be
applied across multiple pages.
5. Code Snippets: Allows users to save frequently used pieces of code for easy reuse in
other projects.

Evaluation
6. What is the meaning of HTML?
7. What is a Dynamic Web Template (DWT)?

General Evaluation
8. Define the term web design.
9. Mention and explain three uses of a web design package.

Common questions

Powered by AI

The Split View feature allows developers to simultaneously view code and design, streamlining the development process by eliminating the need to switch between tabs. This dual-pane setup enables immediate feedback on design changes, enhancing coding efficiency and accuracy .

A web page, written in HTML, serves as a structured format for presenting text, images, and links to other content. By connecting various pieces of content through hyperlinks, web pages facilitate the organization and dissemination of information efficiently, allowing users to navigate seamlessly across different resources on the internet .

Interactive buttons play a crucial role in enhancing user navigation by providing intuitive clickable options that guide users through a website. They offer visual cues for interactivity, facilitate seamless transitions between pages, and improve user engagement without requiring complex image editing tools .

Accessibility is crucial in web design to ensure that websites are usable by people with disabilities. An accessibility checker helps identify compliance with standards, thereby enabling web designers to create inclusive websites. This tool ensures that websites meet the required accessibility criteria, thus broadening their reach and usability .

Code snippets offer the advantage of saving frequently used pieces of code for easy reuse. This feature increases efficiency by reducing repetitive coding tasks, ensuring consistent implementation of code patterns, and minimizing errors, thus streamlining the development process .

Dynamic Web Templates (DWTs) provide a consistent structure across multiple web pages by applying a single master template. This feature allows designers to make global updates to the template, which are then reflected across all pages, saving time and maintaining design consistency throughout the website .

Web design packages simplify the creation of standard-compliant web graphics and navigation elements through features like interactive buttons and graphical tools that allow easy construction of visual elements without requiring external software. This integration ensures consistency, compliance, and efficiency in the development process .

Having a clear goal in web page design is crucial as it directs the content strategy and layout. In hyperlinked content, clarity ensures logical navigation paths, enhances user experience, and facilitates access to related information, thereby achieving the intended communication objectives efficiently .

Web design involves the integration of several components: information architecture, which organizes content; website structure, which determines how information is related; user interface and navigation, which ensure ease of use; layout, colors, contrasts, and fonts, which enhance visual appeal; and the use of icons and photography to communicate effectively. Together, these elements create a cohesive and engaging user experience that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing .

A computer studies teacher should aim to achieve objectives like defining web design, explaining web components such as HTML and DWT, demonstrating the uses of web design packages, and identifying common tools in such packages. These objectives ensure students can plan, create, and update websites while understanding the necessary technical elements .
