Understanding Artificial Intelligence Domains

Intelligence is defined as the ability to learn, understand, and adapt to one's environment, while Artificial Intelligence refers to machines mimicking human traits such as decision-making and learning. A machine becomes intelligent through data and algorithms that guide its learning and decision-making processes. The document outlines three domains of AI: Data Science and Analytics, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing, providing examples for each, such as recommendation systems and virtual assistants.

Unit 1 – AI Reflection

Q1- Define the term Intelligence?

Intelligence is the ability to learn, understand, and apply knowledge to adapt effectively to one's
environment.

Q2- Define the term Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence is the ability of a machine to mimic human traits, i.e., make decisions, predict the
future, learn and improve on its own

Q3- What makes a machine intelligent?

Machine becomes intelligent with the help of data and algorithm. AI systems rely on data to learn and
improve, and algorithms provide the instructions for processing that data and making decisions.

Q4- Explain different domains of AI with the help of examples.

Three Different Domains of AI

1. Data Science and Analytics

o What it is: AI helps in studying and analyzing a lot of data to find useful patterns
or trends.
o Example:
1. Recommendation system : Netflix suggests movies based on what you
watched earlier.
2. Email Spam Filtering: Gmail uses supervised ML to classify emails as
"spam" or "not spam" based on training data of labeled emails.
2. Computer Vision
o What it is: AI helps computers to “see” and understand pictures or videos.
o Example:
1. Face unlock feature on mobile phones.
2. Medical Imaging: AI tools analyze X-rays or MRIs to detect
abnormalities like tumors, assisting doctors in diagnosis.
3. Natural Language Processing (NLP)
o What it is: AI helps computers understand and talk in human languages.
o Example:
1. Virtual Assistant : Using Siri or Google Assistant to ask questions and
get answers.
2. Language Translation: Google Translate converts English to Hindi
instantly by analyzing sentence structures and word meanings.
