INTRODUCTION

MC 1 : "In a world of words, where tales unfold,

There lies a canvas, in stories told.
Colours dance through ink and rhyme,
Where art and prose transcend all time."

MC 2 : Welcome to an exploration where art and literature meet, where each brushstroke is
a word, and every word a [Link] and literature are not just mediums of expression
but languages that speak to the soul.
MC 1 :Join us on this journey with the students of class 10D, as we traverse the gallery of
imagination, where every story is a masterpiece, and every masterpiece tells a story.

MC 1 & 2 : Sit back and enjoy

SCENE - 1

(In a classroom filled with nearly 10 students talking to one and another the school bell rings
and the teacher enters the students rush towards their respective seats. )

( school bell rings )

Teacher : Good morning students !!!!

(Students get up and wish the teacher and teacher continues )
Today we are going to be going deep into the topic of Ekphrastic poetry .

(Narrator 1 enters and occupies the centre of the stage )

Narrator 1 : Art and poetry have been inspiring each other for a long time, which is why the
literary world has given poems that confront artwork a fancy name: Ekphrastic poetry.

In ancient Greek the term ephrasis was applied to the skill of describing a thing with vivid
detail.

Some examples of Ekphrastic poetry include-ozymandias,Odé on a grecian urn ,on seeing

Larry rivers etc.

(Narrator 1 exits)

Teacher : So to begin with we will start by exploring one such work which is based on
another marvel that is the
"The Starry Night" by Anne sexton , which is an ekphrastic that explores Van Gogh’s The
Starry Night painting. It delves into the emotions that a speaker interprets in the painted
elements.

(Narrator 2 enters and occupies the stage )

Narrator 2 : Anne sexton is a well known and prominent poet who is known for her works like
live or die which received the Pulitzer prize for poetry . She started writing as her
therapist
encouraged her to write and in 1957 Sexton joined writing groups in
Boston which marked the beginning of her career . For her writing began,
in fact, as therapy:

(A girl dressed as anne sexton enters the stage occupies the centre )
Anne:-That does not keep me from having a terrible need of — shall I say the word —
religion. Then I go out at night to paint the stars.
— Vincent Van Gogh in a letter to his brother
The town does not exist
except where one black-haired tree slips
up like a drowned woman into the hot sky.
The town is silent. The night boils with eleven stars.
Oh starry night! This is how
I want to die.

It moves. They are all alive.

Even the moon bulges in its orange irons
to push children, like a god, from its eye.
The old unseen serpent swallows up the stars.
Oh starry starry night! This is how
I want to die:

into that rushing beast of the night,

sucked up by that great dragon, to split
from my life with no flag,
no belly,
no cry.

(Anne remains on stage as narrator enters)

Narrator 3 :"The Starry Night" captures the existential angst and spiritual turmoil prevalent in
the post-WWII [Link] language is raw and evocative, with the night "boiling with eleven
stars" and the moon resembling "orange irons." The serpent, a symbol of both creation and
destruction, swallows the stars, conveying a sense of both awe and cosmic chaos. The
legacy of "Starry Night" lies in its ability to capture the essence of the human experience,
portraying the struggles and desires that are universal to all.

(Narrator and anne exits)

Teacher : So now you have got an insight on what ekphrastic poetry is about . I want you to
research one such poem and give a detailed presentation on it by Wednesday . okay ?

( bell rings and scene 1 concludes transfer to scene 2 )

SCENE 2

(Main character and her friend remains in the class and has a conversation as they pack
their bag with other students who are leaving the classroom simultaneously )

Janet : uhhhh…i am so done with all these projects….though i love art but with a little less
work
friend : it's all because you see it as
work see it as perhaps your desire and passion

friend : why don't we work on the project together so it will lessen your so called burden

Janet : Yesss !!! Let's go to my place?

friend : yess

(Mc and friend exits the stage)

SCENE - 3

(Janet and friend enter the stage where the stage is converted into a living room . On stage
is mc grandma who is knitting and watching tv)

Janet : I'm back ammuma !!!

friend : namaste ammuma !!!

Grandma : ahhh u came beta !!! U c can u do me a favour take a picture of the painting u did
and uk whatsapp it to tat shamala aunty she called me and was boasting how her
granddaughter is a doctor but can her granddaughter draw like u noooo !!!! Cme betta sent it
fast

Janet : not now grandma

grandma : ohhh all this food i made for you all wasted you cant even sent a picture to
shamala aunty for ur own good

(grandma continuous complaining )

(They sneaked out into the study laughing )

SCENE - 4

(They enter the study and start working on the project after sometime they finish it )

(A few moments later bgm)

Janet : ahhh I am so done and tired… and i'm so happy its over

friend : yeahhh same here! i am gonna go see u tomorrow

Janet : yaa bye see u tomorrow and thank You

friend : ya anytime
(Friend exits and mc walks up to the book shelf and takes out macbeth)

Janet : ahhh i'm so lazy let me finish reading this after all i have to write an essay on it

(reads it for a while and keeps it aside)

Janet : oh god why is this so confusing macduff....banquo anol is too much drama to
comprehend and old english is so difficult all the tho and shants uhhhhh !!!! You know what I
am halfway done so how about I finish it tomorrow am too tired i will sleep off for now

( *A few moments later bgm is played and the mc sleeps off )

SCENE - 5

(Mc wakes up to her dream world besides who sits in her subconscious .)
( a kid dressed asShakespeare is sitting on into chair writing macbeth . )

Janet : oh nooo… wer am i

Imaginary person : welcome back to your conscious mind Janet !!!

Janet : Why am i here again

Imaginary person : you are here as you are putting too much effort into understanding
macbeth !!!!
You are reading it for the sake of reading and writing your essay and not because you
thoroughly enjoy that literature masterpiece.

Janet: ya that's kinda true ... .it's not like i don't wanna enjoy it….. I love reading but old
English is quite difficult to understand.

Imaginary person : Tats y i am here the thing is that you already know everything but you just
need a little bit more clarity about the plot …

Janet : hmmm…thanks so when do we began and also if this is my subconscious mind who
is that and Whose room is this (points at Shakespeare)

Imaginary person : Now !!!! and that my friend (points at shakespear) is good old
Shakespeare !!!!
Now you come with me. He has a show prepared for you.

(Shakespeare looks at them and waves and smiles )

Shakespeare : wassup kiddos !!!

(Janet and sub person laughs)

(All exits the stage)

SCENE - 6

(Janet and sub person enter the stage where there is two chairs placed at the corner of the
stage. )

Janet - where are we

sub person - come sit here u are here for the experience of a lifetime.

(Enters in stage macbeth and banquo)

(Enters the three witches with the trouble song )

Macbeth : So foul and fair a day i have not seen

Banquo :So withered, and so wild in their attire,

They do not look like the inhabitants of Earth
And yet they are on it ?
Look ! They seem to understand me
By each one laying their choppy fingers
on their skinny lips. You should be women,
And yet your beards forbid me to interpret
That you are so.

Macbeth : Speak if you can. What are you?

Witch 1 :All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!

Witch 2 :All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!

Witch 3 :All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!

Banquo : Good sir, why fear when

Things sound so fair ?
Are you products of my imagination ?
You greet us with great prediction
noble having and of royal hope,
to him.
To me you speak nothing ? .
If you can look into the seeds of time
And say which grain will grow and which will not,
Speak, to me, who neither beg nor fear
Your favours nor your hate.
Witches together :Hail! Hail! Hail!

Witch 1: Lesser than Macbeth and greater.

Witch 2 :Not so happy, yet much happier.

Witch 3 :Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none.

Witches together :So all hail, Macbeth and Banquo!

Banquo and Macbeth, all hail!

(After saying this the witches go in different directions laughing)

(Banquo say this as they exit)

Banquo :The earth has bubbles, as the water has,

And where have they vanished?

Macbeth : Into the thin air . Would they have stayed!

Banquo : What are these things they speak about ?

Or have we eaten some insane root

Macbeth : Your children shall be kings.

Banquo : You shall be king.

Macbeth : Thane of Cawdor too.

Banquo : Who’s here?

(Enter Ross and Angus.)

Ross : The King is happily received, Macbeth,

Angus : The news of the success and victory of Scotland, and he sends his regards

Ross :And of a greater honour, He the king had announced you the great Macbeth as the
Thane of Cawdor,

Banquo : What, can the devil speak true?

Macbeth : The Thane of Cawdor lives. Why do you dress me In borrowed robes?

Angus : The Thane lives but under heavy judgement that life bears .

(Scene concludes)
SCENE - 7

(Lady macbeth enters the stage with a letter in hand and walks on the stage up and down
that's when macbeth enter)

Lady Macbeth : Oh my darling sends a letter with happy news of Glamis and Cawdor
What about what they promised? Yet do fear his nature, Oh can dear macbeth who is too full
of milk of human kindness catch the nearest way that shouldn't be to kind,
But i can .Not by my hands but by pouring my spirits in his ears
And with the valour of my tongue
and with fate
I shall have the crown.

SCENE - 8

(Lady macbeth and macbeth is seated having a conversation)

Macbeth : My dearest love,

Duncan comes here tonight.

Lady Macbeth : And goes when?

Macbeth : Tomorrow, as he proposes.

Lady Macbeth : O, never

Shall he see the morning sun !

Lady Macbeth : Your face, my love, is a book that can be read easily.
Your hand, your tongue. Look at the innocent flower,
But be the serpent underneath. He is coming . And must be provided for; and you shall put
this night’s great business into my dispatch and blame it on the drunken guards.

Macbeth : we won't speak further

Lady Macbeth : Leave all the rest to me.

SCENE - 9

(king duncan enters and there is a conversation between lady macbeth and macbeth)

King Duncan – My valiant warrior , my dear friend and the beautiful lady …l
(embraces macbeth and kisses lady macbeth's hand)

Lady macbeth : my king (curtsies)

Macbeth : my king (bows)

King duncan : my people im too exhausted from this tireful journey…..let me rest

Macbeth : yes my king

( all exits the stage)

SCENE - 10

(king Duncan is Sleeping peaceful and macbeth enters with a knife and stabs king duncan
and the king shouts and dies macbeth runs)

SCENE - 11

(macbeth runs and enters the stage crying)

Macbeth : the ghost of Duncan and guilt will haunt me forever and more . The guilt will
remain with me and will be carried to my [Link] blood stains of my king will remain
embedded in my hands and the smell cannot be hid by perfumed baths or scents.

(Exits the stage)

SCENE - 12

(Macbeth and lady macbeth enters as king coronation scene both of them are seated and
talking to one and another)

Narrator 4 : Macbeth the only one worthy to be king after the demise of the beloved king
duncan's is crowned king alongside lady macbeth as queen . Celebrations take place but
Macbeth is still disturbed by King Duncan's demise and feels endangered as the crowned
prince and his brother are still on the run . He also feels that Banquo suspects that he is the
one behind the murder of king duncan. Blinded by greed and promises offered by the
prophecy told by the witches, Macbeth felt the immediate need to finish off Banquo and his
son Fleance too. As the prophecy predicts that Banquo's children will be king . Macbeth
feels endangered and wants to protect his throne.

SCENE - 13

(all exits the stage and and banquo remains macbeth enters the stage and stabs him from
[Link] remains dead as macbeth comes to the centre and says the dialogue )

Macbeth : My hands are washed by the blood of innocents and loved ones. I belong neither
to the earth , heaven or hell . (witches enter and laugh at macbeth) My soul is corrupted by
greed and fake promises . I have been so misled by the desire for greatness and success
that I ended being devoid of a soul. I killed my bestfriend…my right hand . I have betrayed
the persons who trusted me. and soon will come the verdict for my greed and arrogance.

SCENE - 14
(Lady macbeth enters sleep walking)

Lady Macbeth : Oh this damn spot !!!!

I have dirtied my hand not only by the blood of others but by my greed . All these perfumes
from Arabia can never remove the smell of blood of innocence from my hand .Haunting me
to my grave sooner or later.

(Lady macbeth walks and faints and dies a woman comes and announces lady macbeth has
passed away)

women - oh dear lord ,my dear lady she's not breathing.

(Gaurds enter check on her all excits)

SCENE - 15

(Macbeth is fighting with macduff and malcolm in which he is stabbed to death)

(After which the witches enter as macbeth lies there dead)

Witch 1 : blinded by
Witch 2 :ambition and
Witch 3 :greed
Witch 1 : Here lies
Witch 2 : macbeth as a
Witch 3 : result of his actions

(The witches laugh…Shakespeare enters while writing on his notepad and joins the
witches,macbeth and performs a song/dance)

SCENE - 16

(After all exits janet is back to her sleeping position and she wakes up)

Janet : Oh noooo im late all this macbeth… but isn't that bad afterall isn't it ?

(And goes back to sleep and imaginary person popd from behind and says)

Imaginary person : after all it's me who said the story

(Grandma comes and hits janet with an umbrella and tells her to wake up )

Grandma : Jannet beta pls get up you're late

Janet : 5 minutes more please
