ENGLISH GRADE 2
NOUNS
• A noun is a word that refers to a thing , a person , an animal or a
place .e,g shoe, Ahmed, cat , school.
• Countable nouns
• Uncountable nouns.
COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

• Countable nouns are those nouns which we can count e.g table, chair, pen,
pencil etc.
• Uncountable nouns are those nouns which we cannot count e.g. sand, rice,
water etc.
QUANTIFIERS – HOW MUCH? HOW MANY?

• Quantifiers are used to talk about the number of something: how much or
how many?
• We can use :
• all no some any more most a lot of lots of
WHEN TO USE WHAT?
For uncountable nouns we use much.
• Much = large amount
• E.g is there much rain in summer?
• No there isn’t much rain in the summer.
• We also use little = small amount for the
uncountable nouns e.g we say there is little
water left in the bottle.
HOW MANY?

For countable nouns we use many e.g how many pens do you have?
We also use few = a small number for countable nouns. e.g there are only a few
birds on the tree.
A QUANTIFIER FOR COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE
NOUNS
A lot of = large amount of number.
There is a lot of rain in the spring.
There are a lot of cars on the highway.
