Note:
1. Positive result indicates presence of IgM antibody to Orientia tsutsugamushi suggestive of primary
infection. Evaluation by supplemental test like Immunofluorescence assay is suggested for IgM positive
cases.
2. Negative result indicates absence of IgM antibody to Orientia tsutsugamushi. Patients with negative
results in suspected early disease should be re-tested after 2-3 weeks.
3. Equivocal result indicates low levels of antibodies hence should be re-tested after 2-3 weeks.
4. False positive results can be obtained due to cross reaction with Epstein-Barr virus, Brucella, Dengue
Virus.
5. False negative results may be seen in immunocompromised patients.
6. Test conducted on serum.
