Lesson Articles are words that define a noun as specific or unspecific. They are a type of
Introduction determiner that helps clarify whether we are referring to something in a general
sense or something particular.
Types of Articles
There are two main types of articles:
1. Definite Article:
o The: This article is used to refer to a specific noun that is known to
the reader or listener.
o Example:
"I saw the dog in the park." (Referring to a specific dog that
both the speaker and listener know about.)
2. Indefinite Articles:
o A: This article is used before words that begin with a consonant
sound. It refers to any one of a group, rather than a specific item.
o Example:
"I want a cookie." (Referring to any cookie, not a specific
one.)
o An: This article is used before words that begin with a vowel sound
(a, e, i, o, u). Like "a," it refers to any one of a group.
o Example:
"She is reading an apple." (Referring to any apple, not a
specific one.)
