The speaker is an architect and he comes from Beijing, China. He talks about his city and how it was full of
nature when he was a kid. Then they started to build a lot of buildings, looking all the same.

One day, he was walking down the street in his city and there were people selling fishes. The fishes were in
cubic tanks, and he asked himself why they were cubic. He made a research putting a camera in the tank, in
order to understand how the fishes would behave, and he found out that the cubic tank wasn’t appropriate
for them he decided to design a new fish tank for them.

After that he starts showing some of his architecture projects, which are highly influenced by nature.

He uses a lot of hand sketch, because he likes the randomness of it. According to him, architecture, humans
and nature can coexist together. In the last part of the video, he shows all the projects he has realized,
which are in harmony with nature.

Week 2

TED. What does poverty look like on a plate?

Huiyi Lin and her partner worked on "The Poverty Line" for 14 years, exploring poverty through food. Using
the daily income at the poverty line, they bought food and photographed it on local newspapers, showing
what poverty looks like on a plate. The project, expanded to 38 countries, highlights how limited choices
shape lives. Though the photos don’t solve poverty, they spark conversations about its connection to global

humanity.

Week 3

I watched a fascinating video where Chin Tenglin presented his groundbreaking project in a world premiere.

the need for typing. It’s a revolutionary concept that connects the brain directly to the computer,
showcasing the potential for AI to bridge the gap between human thoughts and technology.

Week 4

I listened to some music, particularly “Scar tissue” by Red hot chili peppers. I like this song a lot, it’s so
catchy but at the same time it has a deep meaning as it talks about the difficult story of the frontman, who

the American sign language and translate in English.

has driven human progress: disposable diapers, disposable plastic syringes. Fashion is built on waste and
she created Coachtopia, a new coach sub- brand, designed not to improve our linear fashion system, but to
pioneer a circular one, in which products are made from waste. They also had to reimagine the value of
waste, and in order to do so they had to change the way they designed. They used to design forward but in
a circular world they have to design backwords starting from existing products and try to understand how
the object could be transformed. They take what is left behind by coach and they reuse it.

Week 12

I’ve been listening to Harry Styles’ “Daylight” on loop all week; it’s one of my favourite songs by him. The

Common questions

Powered by AI

The film 'The Wolf of Wall Street' depicts the consequences of unchecked capitalism through the story of Jordan Belfort, highlighting his rise through fraudulent schemes and excessive risks, culminating in a luxurious yet morally decayed lifestyle driven by greed and corruption. The eventual downfall of Belfort when caught by authorities poses moral questions about the limits of ambition, the ethical responsibilities of financial institutions, and the societal impact of unchecked corporate misconduct. It challenges viewers to reflect on the ethical boundaries in the pursuit of wealth .

AI plays a significant role in bridging educational gaps by providing tailored learning experiences, automating administrative tasks, and facilitating access to educational resources. However, 'The daily' podcast raises ethical concerns regarding data privacy, the potential for increased surveillance, and the risk of reinforcing educational inequalities if AI tools are not equitably accessible. The integration of AI in education calls for careful consideration of these ethical implications to ensure technology enhances rather than hinders educational outcomes .

The theme of human resilience in 'Scar Tissue' by Red Hot Chili Peppers is derived from the frontman's personal narrative of overcoming drug addiction. The song, while catchy, carries deep meaning as it reflects on the struggles and the journey of reconquering one's life. It embodies resilience through its lyrics, capturing the emotional turmoil and the determination to heal and move forward from past adversities .

'The danger of a single story' offers insights into how cultural stereotypes are perpetuated by singular, dominant narratives that fail to capture the complexity of individuals and communities. The talk emphasizes the importance of hearing diverse stories to challenge and overcome these stereotypes, urging recognition of the multiplicity of cultural experiences to foster understanding and empathy. This perspective encourages broadening viewpoints by exploring a wide range of narratives in literature and media .

The podcast illustrates practical challenges faced by the deaf community through the example of Adam Munder, who recounts a personal experience where he and his wife, both deaf, had to take their daughter to a doctor appointment without an interpreter present, highlighting the dependency on costly interpreter services. This prompted him to create OmniBridge, a platform that uses AI to analyze American sign language and translate it into English, offering a technological solution to an accessibility barrier faced by the deaf community .

'The Poverty Line' project offers insights into the global issue of poverty by visually representing it through food purchased with the daily income at the poverty line, photographed on local newspapers. This approach highlights the limited choices and hardships faced by those living at or below the poverty line. By expanding the project to 38 countries, Huiyi Lin and her partner seek to humanize the issue, bridging the gap between abstract poverty statistics and tangible human experiences, thus sparking conversations about poverty’s relationship with broader global challenges like climate change and migration .

Coachtopia approaches waste innovatively by reimagining waste not as a byproduct but as a resource central to the design process. Instead of following the traditional linear fashion system, they pioneer a circular model where products are designed backward, starting from existing materials. This approach involves transforming leftover waste from previous collections into new products, challenging the conventional value chains in fashion and setting a precedent for sustainable practices. This has significant implications for sustainability, encouraging the fashion industry to reconsider product lifecycles and environmental impact .

Quantum Marketing, as explained by Raja Rajamannar, challenges traditional marketing principles by questioning and reimagining every foundational aspect of marketing within the current context. This approach emphasizes a shift in the timelessness of marketing theories and principles to adapt to changes in the modern business environment. The idea is to advance beyond established norms and innovate by aligning marketing with the company's values and societal contributions. Rajamannar believes that marketing should serve both the company and society, encouraging businesses to differentiate themselves through meaningful platforms .

The architectural philosophy presented focuses on integrating nature with urban living by drawing inspiration from natural elements like mountains, clouds, and volcanoes. The architect from Beijing emphasizes the harmony possible between humans, architecture, and nature, believing in coexistence through designs influenced by nature. His use of hand sketches allows for randomness and organic designs, as demonstrated in his projects that strive for ecological balance within urban environments .

Chin Tenglin's project explores the potential of AI for mind-reading by developing technology that can transcribe human thoughts directly onto computers without typing. This groundbreaking work envisions futuristic scenarios where brain-to-computer interfaces could revolutionize communication, enabling seamless interaction between humans and technology. Such advancements open possibilities for applications in accessibility, productivity, and even complex data analysis, highlighting both the promise and ethical challenges associated with such profound integration of AI into human cognition .
