Animals are living things that move, breathe, eat, and grow. They can live on land, in water, or
in the air.
2. Types of Animals:
a. Mammals
Have hair or fur
Give birth to live young
Feed babies with milk
Examples: Humans, dogs, lions
b. Birds
Have feathers and beaks
Lay eggs
Examples: Eagles, parrots, penguins
c. Fish
Live in water
Have gills to breathe
Lay eggs
Examples: Salmon, goldfish, sharks
d. Reptiles
Have dry, scaly skin
Lay eggs
Examples: Snakes, lizards, turtles
e. Amphibians
Live on land and in water
Have moist skin
Examples: Frogs, salamanders
f. Insects
Have 6 legs and 3 body parts
Many have wings
Examples: Ants, butterflies, bees
