instructions on how to spend the money. She has received two million three hundred and

allocate the money as instructed but she decided that she would give the children their
total amount for them to shop for what they want.
Of the children, the girl asks her brother that they should play a game where the winner
will get 3 parts while the loser gets 2 parts of the shopping money. The girl has her card
with the number 7 and asks the brother to randomly pick a card out of five cards each
with digits in binary base. He is required to convert the number on his card to decimal
base. If his number turns out to be greater than that of her sister then he wins. The boy
picks a card with the number 1101.
Task
(a) Show how you can help the woman to determine the different amount as she has
been instructed.
(b) Who of the children will get the most amount of pocket money and how much will
it be?

wants to go to Gulu and Kisoro districts, he has US dollars 8200 that he will use during
his stay and will be required to exchange it for Uganda shillings at an exchange rate of 1
dollar for UGX 3800. He contacts a company that can fly him to his destinations. On Page | 3
arrival, the company informs him that they will fly from Entebbe to Gulu a distance of
275 km on a bearing of 3400, from Gulu to Kisoro the distance is 390 km away on a
bearing of 2190. From Kisoro, they will fly directly back to Entebbe.
The plane charges UGX 25,000 from every kilometer of distance covered.
Task
(a) How much will the students get in Uganda shillings after exchange?
(b) Determine the cost of transport that the students will have to spend
ITEM FOUR
The authorities on your area have realized that the time taken by house hold in for
treatment at the village. Health Centre is becoming unbearable due to long queues. This
has resulted into numerous quarrels among locals in a bid to get treatment. They were
informed by the district authorities that the budget an only cater for addition of a health
hospital in a community whose average waiting time for treatment is above 3hours 30min
On a given day, the chairperson LC III led a team that collected data for the time taken
by 40 people in waiting for treatment at the hospital and is presented ss shown below.

understanding of the information.

The sale price after a 10% discount is UGX 12,600,000. The broker’s 5% commission on this is UGX 630,000, leaving UGX 11,970,000. After paying UGX 450,000 for agreement fees, he has UGX 11,520,000. Since this amount exceeds the loan repayment requirement of UGX 7,680,000, he can repay the loan fully .

The total loan repayment is calculated as Principal + Interest. The interest for 3 years is 4,800,000 x 20% x 3 = UGX 2,880,000. Hence, the total repayment amount is UGX 7,680,000 .

The community waiting time averages less than the required threshold, thus not meeting criteria for immediate infrastructure investment like a borehole, suggesting patience for advisory improvement rather than structural, contingent on a policy reevaluation .

The total distance is 275 km from Entebbe to Gulu, 390 km from Gulu to Kisoro, and 445 km from Kisoro back to Entebbe (calculated as part of a navigational triangle). The total distance is 1,110 km, with a cost of UGX 25,000 per km, resulting in a total cost of UGX 27,750,000 .

The woman should first allocate 40% of UGX 2,380,000 for the son's fees, which is UGX 952,000. The remainder is UGX 1,428,000, of which half, UGX 714,000, should be spent on the daughter's fees. UGX 100,000 should be set aside for transport, leaving UGX 628,000 for the children's shopping .

The conversion results in UGX 31,160,000, calculated by multiplying US$8,200 by UGX 3,800 .

Past district records showing a significant reduction in time-related grievances post-provision of boreholes validate consideration for borehole installations as preventive health measure improvements over other slower operational changes or where reported goodwill turns ineffective .

The binary number 1101 converts to decimal 13, which is greater than 7, so the boy wins. The shopping money is UGX 628,000. As the winner, he receives 3 parts out of a total of 5 parts, equating to 3/5 of UGX 628,000, which is UGX 376,800 .

The waiting times convert to 12 units (hours and minutes to similar time units for each) with a sum for all patients of 170 units. Dividing by 40 patients gives an average of 4.25, equivalent to 3 hours and 15 minutes, justifying the addition of a health facility by being over 3.5 hours .

A bar chart visually highlights waiting time frequencies, making trends evident, such as peak times, enabling policymakers to immediately grasp congestion points, unlike the tabular form which necessitates manual computation and comparison .
