Songs, Poems and Writing
🎤 Project Overview
In this project, you’ll explore how figurative language works in songs and writing—and
then use those tools to create your own piece of writing!
First, you’ll choose a school-appropriate song or a piece of writing, analyze the text
for figurative language, and explain how these devices help shape the meaning.
Afterward, you’ll use those tools to write your own song verse, poem, or descriptive
paragraph.

Part A: Song or Writing Lyric Analysis
📋 Instructions:
● Choose a school-appropriate song or piece of writing with clear, meaningful
text.
● Get teacher approval for your choice.
● On the Figurative Language Lyric Analysis Worksheet (provided separately),
write down 5–8 lines from your song or piece of writing.
● Identify the figurative device used for each line and explain its effect or
meaning.
● Figurative Devices to Consider: Metaphor, Simile, Personification, Hyperbole,
Symbolism, Imagery, Alliteration
You must identify at least 4 different figurative devices.
Part B: Create Your Own Original Writing

Write your own short creative piece:
A song verse, poem, or descriptive paragraph
The piece should be 4–6 lines or 1 paragraph long
Incorporate at least 4 different figurative/literary devices in your writing.

Submit your work as a Google Doc on Google Classroom.
