Digital Computers

6
Analog Computers

• Analog computers works on continuous information.

• The input data is not a number but physical quantity like pressure,
speed, voltage, temperature.
• Examples of analog computers: thermometer, speedometer, etc.

c. Classification by Size

10
Super Computers

• Most powerful & expensive computers.

• Fastest

• Used:
• weather predictions
• Molecular chemistry, nuclear research simulations.
• Governmental agencies for heavy jobs.
• Large international corporations for fast calculations

11
Mainframe computers

• very powerful, very fast.

• very huge in size, generate a lot of so requires a lot of cooling to

operate.

• Used by big organizations to manage large amount of centralized

data. Like: banks, hospitals, universities, etc.

12
Mini Computers
• Larger than a microcomputer, but smaller than a mainframe.
• It is used to serve multiple users.
• also known as mid-range servers.

• Used in:
• Factories for process control, inventory, etc.

13
Micro Computers (PC)

• also called personal computers (PC).

• are small and consists of a microchip processor.
• available in desktop size, notebook size and
handheld.
• Can be used at home, education and business
applications.
