WATER RETICULATION WORK
METHOD OF STATEMENT FOR WATER RETICULATION WORK

3.0 CONSTRUCTION METHOD
a) Right of ways (ROW), alignments, chainages and TBM pegs shall be established and
confirmed prior to commencement of work.
b) Approval from relevant authorities (if required) should be granted and all conditions
fixed by them to be strictly adhered before any construction work begins.
c) Any as-built drawings for existing services should be made available and then
confirmed by pilot trenching.
d) Access road to working place shall be available for accessibility of pipelaying team
and associated construction team.
e) Existing services to be detour (if required) and shall be completed in good order prior
to commencing any permanent works of pipe laying.
f) All necessary pipes, fittings, specials shall be made available and slung along the
pipeline routes.
4.0 PIPELAYING
4.1 Excavation
Excavation for pipe trench will be carried out by mean of backhoe. Excavation is closely
monitored to prevent over excavation.
At area with bad ground condition, appropriate shoring shall be provided to support the sides
of the excavated trench from collapse and to ensure safe working condition within the pipe
trench.
4.2 Dewatering of pipe trench
At area with high water table or during raining season, dewatering pump shall be used to
remove water within the pipe trench in order to provide a dry condition for the pipe laying,
welding and other associated works within the pipe trench.
4.3 M-PVC Pipe Laying
M-PVC Pipe will be laid to the lines and levels shown on the drawings or as otherwise
directed by SO.
M-PVC Pipe laying will be carried out as soon as trenching is completed. M-PVC Pipes shall
be first inspected against its internal cleanliness. Prior to laying and assembling of joints, the
external surface of spigot and interior of socket of the adjacent M-PVC pipe shall both be
thoroughly cleaned. Gasket shall be wiped clean and then placed into the socket with the
groove in the gasket located on the retaining bead in the socket. Any bulges on the gasket
shall be removed to ensure the gasket fits evenly around the entire circumference.
A thin film of lubricant shall be applied on the gasket and the outside surface of the spigot to
allow smooth engagement of the M-PVC pipe joints. The spigot of the M-PVC pipe being
jointed must be aligned and entered carefully into the adjacent socket until it makes contact
with the gasket. Joint assembly is completed by forcing the spigot end of the entering pipe
past the gasket, which is thus compressed until the first painted strip on the end of the pipe
disappears and the second painted strip is approximately flushed with the socket face.
Applying of lubricant to the gasket and the external face of spigot
Assembly by force can be carried out using Trifor method with a wire rope or chain as shown
in diagram below or push by backhoe or excavator with timber header placed between the M-
PVC pipe and the bucket to prevent damage to the M-PVC pipe.
Connecting pipes (push-on)
4.4 Refilling of Trench
Trench filling shall only be carried out upon inspection by SO or his representatives
Trench shall be backfilled with sand. The filling material shall be deposited in layers and
thoroughly rammed under and around the M-PVC pipe until the M-PVC pipe trench has been
filled up to the semi-diameter of the M-PVC pipe. Thereafter the suitable material shall be
carried up to at least 150mm above the top of the M-PVC pipe. Particular care shall be taken
to prevent damage to the coating of the M-PVC pipes.
Suitable excavated materials will then be deposited in layers and rammed the M-PVC pipe
with suitable shaped rammers until the ground level.
5.0 PRESSURE TESTING
After a length of pipeline has been completed it shall be tested as a whole against stop ends.
The testing shall be carried out over length of approximately two kilometer where possible
between washout or over crossings or length pre-determined by S.O. all valves shall be
checked before the test to ensure that all in working order. The length of pipeline to be tested
must seal with end cap with an extended 1inch GI pipe come with stopcock together with a
pressure gauge. The test pressure to be applied shall be determined by the S.O. and generally
at 1.5 times the working pressure or proposed at 15 bars. Clean water shall be filled and
pumped to the required pressure and maintained testing for 24 hours. After a period of 3 hours
or a pressure fall of 9 meter whichever is the sooner, pumping shall be resumed and the
quantity required to be pumped, in order to restore the test pressure, divided by the time, shall
be measure of the rate of loss. The pipeline under testing shall be deemed to have passed if the
leakage does not exceed 10% of the proposed 15 bars.
The S.O. will attend all testing and issued a certificate for pipeline passed the pressure test.
Likewise the contractor shall rectify and locate any leakages and make well all joints to the
satisfaction of the S.O. and carry out retest until the permissible losses are complied with.
6.0 SAFETY MEASURES
a) Workers should wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
b) Swing area of heavy machinery to be monitor closely.
c) Checking of wire rope, webbing sling and tools are in good working condition.
d) Adequate lighting if working during nighttime.
e) Excavated pit / trench shall be inspected by supervisor to ensure safe working
environment prior to any further works within the pit / trench.
f) Open trench shall be properly barricaded.
