Toaster Reverse Engineering Project

This document outlines a project by a team from the University of Cincinnati focused on reverse engineering a West Bend toaster. It includes sections on the introduction, background research, part modeling, assembly modeling, individual contributions, and recommendations. The report aims to document the process for others to replicate and improve their design skills.

5. Introduction
In this project team 004 will be reverse engineering a West Bend toaster. This process
entails disassembly, measuring, part modeling, and constructing an assembly for the toaster.
The findings from this process will then be recorded in this report and in a presentation. This
project is intended to allow others to recreate the design project as we did, and to aid those
working on it in their design skills.

In this report we will cover the creation, background context, and ownership of our
subject. Next, we will describe the functions used in our subject and examine how these
functions are preformed. Once the context for the subject of our report has been established,
we will cover the process of designing each part, and then cover the assembly of these parts.

Background Research, Literature Review, and other Pertinent Information

IN 1919 Charles P. Strite first invented a prototype toaster. Two years in 1921
later he claimed a patent for it, and began releasing a consumer version in 1926. The way
the device works is a combination of electrical functions. The three most important parts
of the toaster are the heating elements, the ejection system, and the system shutoff timer.

Part Modeling
 In detail describe the part modeling process of your project – refer to the document titled
“Guide to Part Modeling Description” in the Project section on Canvas under Modules
 For including images of the part models, you may either use the Snipping Tool or the
Print Screen command on your windows PC (prt sc)
 Make sure you include all the commands and features using to model every part –
example sketch, sweep, extrude, pattern, mirror, etc.
 Assign Part Name to each component

Assembly Modeling
 Explain in detail the assembly modeling process you carried out along with constraints
used while assembling
 Include a screenshot of the assembled 3-D model

Detailed Drawings (Parts & Assembly)

 Include multi-view drawings - Top View, Side View, Front View, and Isometric View

Exploded View of the Assembly Model

Bill of Materials

Individual Contribution

 Each member contributed at least 6 parts, contributions to the report, and contributions to
the presentation. Luke completed the assembly with the provided parts, Marissa
completed the presentation, Jack wrote the bulk of the report, and Barbara oversaw,
edited, checked, and managed every aspect of the project.
